RMHC-SD IS A HOME-AWAY-FROM-HOME FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN BEING TREATED FOR SERIOUS, OFTEN LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS AT LOCAL SAN DIEGO HOSPITALS. THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES A 48-BEDROOM RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE (THE HOUSE), WHICH WAS COMPLETED IN 2009, AND REPLACED THE 12-BEDROOM ORIGINAL HOUSE (THE NORTH HOUSE). IN JULY 2017, THE ORGANIZATION REOPENED THE NORTH HOUSE, ADDING 8 ADDITIONAL GUEST ROOMS FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AT LOCAL HOSPITALS.
