NATIONAL PKU NEWS' PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO DISSEMINATE INFORMATION TO PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES AS WELL AS TO PROFESSIONALS INVOLVED IN THE TREATMENT OF THE DISEASE PHENYLKETONURIA (PKU).

PKU NEWS PROVIDES THREE PRIMARY SERVICES IN THE FORM OF WEBSITES AND APPS: HOWMUCHPHE.ORG, COOKFORLOVE,ORG, AND THE GO LOW PRO APP. THESE SERVICES ALLOW COMMMUNITY MEMBERS TO MANAGE THEIR RESTRICTIVE DIETS. OVERALL USER BASE VARIES FROM ~2,000 PAYING SUBSCRIBERS (HOW MUCH PHE) TO 10,000 USERS REGISTERED FOR FREE ACCOUNTS ON COOK FOR LOVE, TO 1,000 USERS OF THE GO LOW PRO APP.
RESPONDING TO COMMUNITY'S REQUESTS FOR SUPPORT ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND VIA EMAIL: INQUIRIES ABOUT HOW TO FIND CLINCIS, HOW TO WORK WITH FOOD COMPANIES, HOW TO FIND ADDITIONAL RESOURCES FOR PKU SUPPORT. 10-12 REQUESTS/WEEK FOR A TOTAL OF 500-750 PERSONS SERVED. ADMINISTATION OF THE GUTHRIE-KOCH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AND ADVOCACY FOR THE COMMUNITY.
PKU NEWS HOSTED A VIRTUAL CAMP IN AUGUST 2021 TO PROVIDE EDUCATION, COOKING DEMOS, SUPPORT AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT INLINE WITH THE COMMUNITY. THERE IS A PLAN AND COSTS HAVE BEEN INCURRED FOR A LIVE IN-PERSON CAMP EVENT FOR AUGUST 2022.
