DIRECT STUDENT SUPPORT WAS ESPECIALLY CRITICAL TO KEEP STUDENTS IN SCHOOL AND SUCCEEDING AS THEY RECOVER FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE PANDEMIC. THE STUDENT EMERGENCY FUND ASSISTED WITH BASIC NEEDS, HOUSING AND FOOD INSECURITY. SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDED BY GENEROUS INDIVIDUALS, CORPORATIONS, FOUNDATIONS AND EMPLOYEES WAS AWARDED TO 601 STUDENTS IN THE FOUR LOS RIOS COLLEGES. SCHOLARSHIPS COVER TUITION FEES, TEXTBOOKS, TRANSPORTATION AND LIVING EXPENSES FOR STUDENTS WITH A HIGH LEVEL OF FINANCIAL NEED AND/OR OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. THE LOS RIOS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM SUPPORTS DESERVING STUDENTS INCLUDING FOSTER YOUTH, VETERANS, SINGLE PARENTS AND AT-RISK LOW INCOME POPULATIONS.
THE LOS RIOS COLLEGES FOUNDATION PROVIDED SUPPORT TO COLLEGEDEPARTMENTS AND PROGRAMS DURING THE 2021-22 ACADEMIC YEAR. THESE RESOURCES ALLOW COLLEGE FACULTY, STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS TO IMPROVE EXISTING PROGRAMS, EXPERIMENT WITH NEW AND INNOVATIVE APPROACHES AND SUPPORT STUDENT SUCCESS. THE LOS RIOS COLLEGES FOUNDATION PROVIDES PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT TO THE FOUR LOS RIOS COLLEGES, AMERICAN RIVER, COSUMNES RIVER, FOLSOM LAKE AND SACRAMENTO CITY, AND THE HARRIS CENTER FOR THE ARTS, BY SERVING AS THE VEHICLE THROUGH WHICH INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS MAY INVEST IN THE LOS RIOS COLLEGES AND THEIR STUDENTS.
THANKS TO GENEROUS CORPORATE AND INDIVIDUAL DONORS, LRCF CONTINUED TO REMOVE BARRIERS FOR STUDENTS THROUGH THE PROMISE INITIATIVE. THE LOS RIOS PROMISE SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDED $500 AWARDS TO FIRST TIME, FULL TIME STUDENTS WITH HIGH FINANCIAL NEED. THIS YEAR WE LAUNCHED THE PROMISE TO CAREER CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM TO HELP PREPARE STUDENTS FOR HIGH-PAYING, HIGH-QUALITY JOBS IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND BUILDING INDUSTRY AND MEET THE DEMAND IN THE REGION FOR SKILLED WORKERS. STUDENTS RECEIVED ENROLLMENT AND COMPLETION SCHOLARSHIPS TO HELP WITH NEEDS SUCH AS WORK BOOTS, TOOLS AND SAFETY GLASSES.
THE LOS RIOS COLLEGES FOUNDATION RECEIVES GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE, GOODS AND EQUIPMENT IN SUPPORT OF ACADEMIC AND STUDENT PROGRAMS. GIFTS THIS YEAR INCLUDED ITEMS THAT PROVIDED REAL WORLD, HANDS ON OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS SUCH AS BATTERY STORAGE AND ENERGY MONITORING STATIONS TO BENEFIT THE SOLAR INSTALLERS PROGRAM, SCIENCE KITS TO BENEFIT VITICULTURE AND CHEMISTRY PROGRAMS, AND TWO COMPLETE AIRPLANE ENGINES AND A PROPELLER TO BENEFIT THE AERONATICS PROGRAM. MANY OF THESE GIFTS COME FROM GENEROUS INDUSTRY PARTNERS WHO BENEFIT FROM HIRING THE SKILLED EMPLOYEES WHO RECEIVE THEIR EDUCATION AT THE LOS RIOS COLLEGES.
