Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
NPCC IS DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING DISCOUNTED AND UNDERREPRESENTED ARTISTS THROUGH SPONSORING THEIR PROJECTS, AND PROMOTING THEIR ART AT EVENTS SUCH AS FESTIVALS AND PREMIERS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
NPC FEST, A FIVE DAY AFFAIR IN THE FALL OF 2021, WAS AN EPIC SUCCESS. OUR SHORTS SHOWCASE, FEATURING A ROSTER OF INDEPENDENT FILMS PRODUCED BY FIRST TIME FILMMAKERS, SOLD OUT, AS DID 24 YEAR OLD AUTEUR KANSAS BOWLING'S 16MM EPIC CUDDLY TOYS. WE ALSO SPONSORED A PERFORMANCE PIECE BY BIPOC ARTIST NILE HARRIS CALLED THIS HOUSE IS NOT A HOME; IT WAS A FEARLESS, BOLD COMMENTARY ON 2021'S BLM PROTESTS. PERSONALLY AFFECTED BY THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT, HARRIS SOUGHT TO RECONSTRUCT "THE IDENTITY OF A PROTEST" BY POSING THE QUESTION: WHAT IF PROTESTING COULD BE REVELATORY INSTEAD OF FEARFUL, FOREBODING, OR SAD. HIS ANSWER INCLUDED A MOVING PERFORMANCE PIECE SET IN AN INFLATABLE CARNIVAL BOUNCE HOUSE. IT PUSHED BOUNDARIES BOTH AESTHETICALLY AND PHILOSOPHICALLY.
IN NOVEMBER WE HOSTED A RETROSPECTIVE OF WORK BY YOUNG HAITIAN ARTIST TREVOR BAZILE, WHOSE UNTIMELY DEATH IN OCTOBER LEFT A WOUND ON BOTH THE MIAMI AND NEW YORK FILM COMMUNITIES. AN UNDERREPRESENTED VOICE IN THE EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA SCENE, BAZILE'S ART TOUCHED ON THEMES SUCH AS RACE, CLASS, PRIVILEGE AND SEXUALITY. OVER 200 PEOPLE CAME TO CELEBRATE BAZILE'S INGENUITY AND ORIGINALITY. HE WAS EXACTLY THE TYPE OF ARTIST WE ENDEAVOR TO SUPPORT. THROUGHOUT 2021 WE ALSO COLLABORATED ON PROGRAMMING WITH EXECUTIVES FROM MIAMI'S BORSCHT FILM FESTIVAL WHO, LIKE US, SOUGHT TO EMPOWER ARTISTS WITH AN ARRAY OF PERSPECTIVES AND LIFE EXPERIENCE.
