THE TRUST WORKS CLOSELY WITH PRIVATE LANDOWNERS AND LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES TO PROTECT ARIZONA'S LANDSCAPES, WORKING RANCHES, WATER AND WILDLIFE HABITAT.

IN FY2021, EVEN AS THE IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC CONTINUED, ARIZONA LAND AND WATER TRUST FURTHER ADVANCED ITS EFFORTS TO PROTECT BIOLOGICALLY SENSITIVE AREAS AND WORKING LANDSCAPES, PRODUCED A NUMBER OF OUTREACH AND EDUCATION COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS ON LAND AND WATER PROTECTION OPTIONS, AND PROVIDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON CONSERVATION, LAND USE AND POLICY-RELATED ISSUES. THE TRUST MAINTAINED THE PROTECTION OF ITS EXISTING EASEMENTS AND PROPERTIES AND MADE FURTHER PROGRESS ON PROTECTING NEW LANDS. THE TRUST CONTINUED TO MANAGE WATER LEASE AGREEMENTS WITH WILLING LANDOWNERS ALONG THE GILA AND SAN PEDRO RIVERS AS PART OF OUR INNOVATIVE DESERT RIVERS PROGRAM, SAVING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT TO DATE, AND EXPANDED ITS FOCUS IN THE SANTA CRUZ RIVER REGION. AS OF FISCAL YEAR 2021, ARIZONA LAND AND WATER TRUST HAD SURPASSED 60,000 ACRES PROTECTED TO DATE WITH WILLING LANDOWNERS AND OVER 500,000 ACRES AS A RESULT OF OUR POLICY WORK IN LAND AND WATER PLANNING, HABITAT CONSERVATION AND WILDLIFE CORRIDOR MAPPING. OUR CONSERVATION EFFORTS AND PARTNERSHIPS HAVE LEVERAGED MORE THAN $330,000,000 OVER THE LIFE OF THE ORGANIZATION FOR LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION.
