THE ROSALYNN CARTER INSTITUTE OF CAREGIVERS (RCI) PROMOTES THE HEALTH, STRENGTH, AND RESILIENCE OF ALL CAREGIVERS AT EVERY STAGE OF THEIR JOURNEY.

CAREGIVER AWARENESS - OVER THE COURSE OF 2022, RCI ENGAGED IN A NUMBER OF SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF AND SUPPORT FOR FAMILY CAREGIVERS. NOTABLY, RCI LAUNCHED ITS FIRST-EVER VOLUNTEER ADVOCACY NETWORK, THE 4KINDS NETWORK, WHICH WORKS TO ELEVATE THE VOICES OF FAMILY CAREGIVERS IN MEDIA, RESEARCH, THE WORKPLACE, AND ON CAPITOL HILL. RCI ALSO WORKED TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF ISSUES FACING CAREGIVERS VIA OWNED PLATFORMS AND EARNED MEDIA, INCLUDING PLACEMENTS IN NPR, PBS, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, WASHINGTON POST, BOSTON GLOBE, THE ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION, THE 19TH, AND FORBES. WE CAPPED OFF THE YEAR BY HOSTING A NATIONAL CONVENING, WHICH BROUGHT TOGETHER LAWMAKERS, INDUSTRY LEADERS, FUNDERS, MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA, POP-CULTURE INFLUENCERS, C-SUITE EXECUTIVES, AND FAMILY CAREGIVERS FOR A CONVERSATION ON THE FUTURE OF CARE.
VARIOUS OTHER PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES.
OPERATION FAMILY CAREGIVER (OFC) AND OPERATING CAREGIVER SUPPORT (OCS) ARE RCI'S SIGNATURE MILITARY PROGRAMS PROVIDING SUPPORT TO CAREGIVERS OF SERVICE MEMBERS AND VETERANS. OFC IS AN EVIDENCE-BASED 1:1 COACHING PROGRAM TEACHING PROBLEM-SOLVING AND OTHER SKILLS. IN 2022, RCI COACHES PROVIDED 452 COACHING SESSIONS AND 380 COACHING HOURS, SERVING 116 UNIQUE CAREGIVERS. CAREGIVERS WHO COMPLETED OFC HAVE REPORTED A 20% DECREASE INBURDEN, 32% DECREASE INDEPRESSION, 9% DECREASE IN PERCEIVED FINANCIAL STRESS, 12% DECREASE IN PERCEIVED LIFE CHAOS, 11% INCREASE IN PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS, 21% INCREASE IN SOCIAL ACTIVITY. OCS PROVIDES VIRTUAL PEER SUPPORT GROUPS, DELIVERED IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH. IN 2022, 413 PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED 116 GROUPS, SERVING 89 UNIQUE CAREGIVERS. OCS PARTICIPANTS REPORTED A 11% DECREASE IN CAREGIVER DEPRESSION SCORE ONLY 3 MONTHS INTO THE PROGRAM.
WORKING WHILE CARING - IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY, RCI'S WORKING WHILE CARING (WWC) INITIATIVE FILLS CRITICAL GAPS IN THE CAREGIVER-EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE THROUGH RESEARCH, COMMUNICATIONS, AND EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT. RCI WORKS DIRECTLY WITH EMPLOYERS (45 IN 2022) TO EXPLORE THE EFFECTS, CHALLENGES, AND OPPORTUNITIES OF CARING WHILE WORKING. BEYOND EXPERT FACILITATION AND CONSULTATION, RCI OFFERS CURATED PRESENTATIONS, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, AND RESOURCES, INCLUDING INFORMATION ABOUT THE BROADER CONTEXT OF CARE, WHICH CAN PRESENT SIGNIFICANT BARRIERS TO CAREGIVER EMPLOYEES. IN 2022, RCI LAUNCHED THE FIRST INNOVATION LAB WITH 5 EMPLOYERS IN SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN, AND RELEASED OUR INVISIBLE OVERTIME WHITE PAPER.
