DPS FOUNDATION COLLABORATED WITH FOUNDATIONS, CORPORATIONS, PARENTS, EDUCATORS, ALUMNI, AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO INVEST IN PROGRAMS AND SCHOOLS ACROSS DENVER. SUPPORTED BY OUR EVER-INCREASING DONOR BASE, DPS FOUNDATION GRANTED NEARLY $5 MILLION TO DPS FOR PRIORITY PROGRAMS AND CRITICAL NEEDS IN 2020-21.WORKING ALONGSIDE DPS LEADERS AND EDUCATORS, DPS FOUNDATION INVESTS IN TRANSFORMATIVE OPPORTUNITIES ACCELERATING PROGRESS FOR STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS TO HELP REACH OUR VISION WHERE EVERY STUDENT GRADUATES READY TO LEAD A SUCCESSFUL LIFE. (SEE CONTINUATION ON SCHEDULE O)OUR ANNUAL INITIATIVES REMAIN IMPORTANT AND IN 2020-21 WE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND TRAUMA-INFORMED WORK IN DPS, CAREER AND COLLEGE DEVELOPMENT FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS, AND AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR ELEMENTARY AGED STUDENTS.WITH GENEROUS FUNDING FROM BILL & MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION, THE NETWORK FOR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT IS IN ITS SECOND OF FIVE YEARS AND CONTINUES TO WORK TO CREATE A COMMUNITY OF DPS HIGH SCHOOLS TO LEVERAGE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND DESIGN THINKING TO ENSURE POST-SECONDARY SUCCESS FOR BLACK, LATINX, AND LOW-INCOME STUDENTS. WITH DPS FOUNDATION'S A TO Z FUND, WE FUNDED 107 GRANTS DURING THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR.NEW IN 2020-21, DPS FOUNDATION IMPACTED SEVERAL KEY AREAS OF FOCUS INCLUDING AWARDING EIGHT SCHOOLS FUNDS FROM ITS $1 MILLION FUND, A MAJOR MILESTONE FOR DPS FOUNDATION. THE $1 MILLION FUND WILL WORK TO BREAK HISTORICAL PATTERNS OF INEQUITY FOR STUDENTS; ALLOWING SCHOOLS THE FLEXIBILITY TO DETERMINE WHERE THE DOLLARS ARE MOST NEEDED TO MOVE THE NEEDLE FOR STUDENT SUCCESS. AWARDS WILL BEGIN IN 2021-22 AND CONTINUE FOR 2-3 YEARS.PANDEMIC SUPPORT REMAINED PROMINENT THIS YEAR AS WELL. DPS FOUNDATION KEPT STUDENTS CONNECTED; PROVIDING INTERNET ACCESS FOR MORE THAN 300 STUDENTS WHO HAVE LIMITED ACCESS TO WI-FI FOR REMOTE LEARNING. SUPPORT ALSO ENSURED MORE THAN 4,000 STUDENTS AT 11 SCHOOLS HAD SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO START THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR, INCLUDING ITEMS SUCH AS HEADPHONES AND INDIVIDUAL WHITE BOARDS FOR REMOTE LEARNING. IN ADDITION, DPS FOUNDATION ACCELERATED LEARNING BY FUNDING HIGH-INTENSITY 1:1 MATH TUTORING FOR 100 STUDENTS.THANKS TO OUR DONORS' GENEROSITY, DPS IS MAKING STRIDES FOR MORE THAN 90,000 STUDENTS IN DENVER. AS THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR APPROACHES, DPS IS EXCITED TO WELCOME STUDENTS BACK TO THE CLASSROOM FOLLOWING A YEAR FILLED WITH UNCERTAINTY MIXED WITH REMOTE AND IN-CLASSROOM LEARNING. DPS REMAINS A VIBRANT AND DIVERSE DISTRICT WITH STUDENTS IDENTIFYING AS 52.4% LATINX, 25.6% WHITE, 13.8% BLACK, ALONG WITH SMALL PERCENTAGES OF ASIAN, NATIVE INDIAN, OR NATIVE ALASKAN. WITH THAT DIVERSITY COMES A GREAT MIX OF LANGUAGES SPOKEN IN THE DISTRICT: 36.3% OF STUDENTS ARE ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS WITH MULTIPLE WORLD LANGUAGES TAUGHT IN DPS SCHOOLS INCLUDING FRENCH, ITALIAN, SPANISH, LAKOTA, JAPANESE, ARABIC, AND CHINESE. WE KNOW WHEN WE JOIN TOGETHER FOR OUR STUDENTS, OUR COMMUNITY AND CITY WILL THRIVE.
