RENT ASSISTANCE THROUGH CITY OF PORTLAND HOUSING BUREAU: ASSISTED LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF PORTLAND AND MULTNOMAH COUNTY TO APPLY FOR AND RECEIVE RENT ASSISTANCE. HAKI EMPLOYEES CONNECTED WITH RENTERS AND LANDLORDS TO COLLECT ALL RELEVANT AND LEGALLY REQUIRED DATA, AND RENT WAS PAID DIRECTLY TO LANDLORDS TO ENSURE THAT TENANTS WERE NOT EVICTED. SERVED 257 HOUSEHOLDS, OVER 1,000 INDIVIDUALS. EXPENSES INCLUDED PAYROLL, PAYROLL TAXES, OFFICE RENT, OFFICE SUPPLIES.
SEEDING JUSTICE: HAKI SERVED AS PART OF THE SOUTH METRO RACIAL JUSTICE COHORT THROUGH SEEDING JUSTICE. AS MEMBERS OF THE COHORT, HAKI LEARNED EFFECTIVE ORGANIZING AND ADVOCACY TECHNIQUES. HAKI THEN USED THESE TECHNIQUES TO RAISE AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE VOICES AND GET DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN POLICIES AND PROGRAMS WHERE THE HAKI COMMUNITY HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN LEFT BEHIND, WHETHER ON PURPOSE OR THROUGH A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING FROM OUR PARTNERS, INCLUDING LOCAL GOVERNMENTS. EXPENSES INCLUDED PAYROLL, PAYROLL TAXES, OFFICE RENT.OREGON FOOD BANK: HAKI PARTNERED WITH THE OREGON FOOD BANK TO COLLECT AND DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO LOCAL IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE FAMILIES EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY. HAKI ASSEMBLED VOLUNTEERS EVERY SATURDAY TO PACK BOXES WITH FOOD AND HAND OUT TO FAMILIES. HAKI USED THE MAJORITY OF THE FUNDING IT RECEIVED TO PURCHASE SHELVING AND OTHER MATERIALS FOR THE FOOD PANTRY (LISTED AS OFFICE EXPENSES). REMAINING FUNDS USED FOR INCLUDED PAYROLL, PAYROLL TAXES, OFFICE RENT.SMALL FUNDING FOR FOCUS GROUPS, OFFICE SUPPLIES, AND PAYROLL, PAYROLL TAXES, OFFICE RENT FROM THE FOLLOWING: COMMUNITY PARTNERS FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING - COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ($500); PORTLAND OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AND CIVIC LIFE - RAMADAN FOOD PROJECT ($4,999); METRO - VALUE INN ADVISORY COMMITTEE ($4,000); INNOVATIVE HOUSING INC - COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ($3,000); INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS ($15,982). TOTAL OF $28,481 FROM VARIOUS SOURCES.
HAKI HOSTED THE FIRST EVER HOLLY PARK MULTICULTURAL FAIR. HAKI RECEIVED A WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT GRANT FROM METRO REGIONAL GOVERNMENT TO HOST THE FIRST ANNUAL HOLLY PARK MULTICULTURAL FAIR. THE PURPOSE OF THE FAIR WAS TO PROVIDE FREE SPACE FOR LOCAL, MULTICULTURAL SMALL AND EMERGING BUSINESSES AND PERFORMERS, AND TO BRING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE THE VARIED CULTURES REPRESENTED IN THE SOUTH METRO REGION. OVER 800 PEOPLE ATTENDED, ANDOVER 30 SMALL BUSINESSES, NON-PROFITS, AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES PARTICIPATED EXPENSES INCLUDED PAYROLL, PAYROLL TAXES, OFFICE RENT, OFFICE SUPPLIES.
PORTLAND BUREAU OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT: HAKI WORKED WITH PBEM AND COMMUNITY ENERGY PARTNERS TO ORGANIZE AND DELIVER SEVERAL WEATHERIZATION WORKSHOPS, TEACHING COMMUNITY MEMBERS HOW TO STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY DURING EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS, BOTH DURING THE SUMMER AND WINTER. THE SYMPTOMS AND SOLUTIONS FOR HEATH EXHAUSTION, AS WELL HOW TO MITIGATE FOR POOR AIR QUALITY FROM WILDFIRES WERE INCLUDED IN THE WORKSHOPS. ATTENDEES RECEIVED TOOLKITS THAT INCLUDED BOX FANS, WEATHERIZATION STRIPPING, COOLING CLOTHES, WINDOW COVERINGS, AND MORE TO USE IN THEIR OWN HOMES. EXPENSES INCLUDED PAYROLL, PAYROLL TAXES, OFFICE RENT, OFFICE SUPPLIES.
