THE COMMON GOOD WORKS WITH LOW INCOME FAMILIES THROUGH THESE INITIATIVES: EDUCATION, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, ADVOCACY AND SPORTS PROGRAMS. THE COMMON GOOD OPERATES A COMMUNITY CENTER IN THE AREA TO PROVIDE THESE SERVICES.

AFTERSCHOOL LEARNING CENTER: THE COMMON GOOD HAS AN AFTERSCHOOL LEARNING PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AT WAYMAN TISDALE ACADEMY, A PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN TULSA SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE LEARNING CENTER IS DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN THAT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY "TRAUMA" THAT AFFECTS THEIR LEARNING AND EMOTIONAL STATE. WE TYPICALLY HAVE 80 CHILDREN EVERY SCHOOL DAY FOR 3 HOURS AFTERSCHOOL. THE CHILDREN'S AGES ARE 7 THROUGH 11 OR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGES.


IN ADDITION TO THE LARGEST PROGRAMS, THE COMMON GOOD PROVIDES ADVOCACY TO THE COMMUNITY OF NORTHWEST TULSA. WE CONTINUE TO ADDRESS THE HIGH CRIME RATE AND DRUG STATISTICS BY SUPPORTING NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUPS AND WORKING WITH CRIME STOPPERS AND THE TULSA POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR TRAINING AND SUPPORT. TOTAL EXPENSES FOR ADVOCACY FOR 2023 ARE 14,588. IN ADDITION, WE SPENT 1,428 ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT DURING THE YEAR. THESE FUNDS WERE FOR CAREER TRAINING AND COUNSELING.


SPORTS PROGRAMS: THE COMMON GOOD STARTED THE YEAR WITH BASKETBALL PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN IN THE WAYMAN TISDALE ACADEMY AREA. THE BASKETBALL PROGRAMS CONDUCTED LEAGUE PLAY FOR OVER 75 CHILDREN. IN ADDITION, WE HELD SOCCER PRACTICE AND TEAM GAMES DURING THE SPRING AND SUMMER WITH OVER 50 KIDS PARTICIPATING. WE HAVE "OPEN GYM" NIGHT FIVE NIGHTS A WEEK FOR YOUNGER KIDS AND FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AGED KIDS. IN ADDITION, SPORTS ARE INTRODUCED TO OUR KIDS ATTENDING THE AFTERSCHOOL LEARNING CENTER EACH DAY.


SENIOR SUPPORT PROGRAM: WE HOST 40 TO 50 SENIOR ADULTS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD EACH MORNING AT OUR WORK OUT ROOM AND CAFE. THE SENIORS HAVE EXERCISE PROGRAMS, HAVE ACCESS TO OUR EXERCISE EQUIPMENT, AND ARE FED EITHER A MEAL OR SNACK EACH MORNING. THIS HELPS BUILD COMMUNITY FOR THE SENIORS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING HEALTHY CHOICES FOR THEM. WE ALSO HAVE SENIORS WALKING IN THE GYM, PLAYING TABLE TENNIS, WORKING PUZZLES, CARDS AND DOMINOS MOST MORNINGS.
