Part 3 - Line 4a
SEE SCH O FOR COMPLETE DESCRIPTION.FOUNDED IN 2017 IN DOWNTOWN ATLANTA AS A 5013 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION, THE BOYCE L. ANSLEY SCHOOL (TAS) IS THE ONLY SCHOOL IN THE SOUTHEASTERN U.S. DEDICATED TO SERVING THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. THE MISSION OF TAS IS TO EMPOWER THESE CHILDREN TO THRIVE BEYOND CIRCUMSTANCE. TO THAT END, WE OPERATE A TUITION-FREE, PRIVATE SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN OF FAMILIES WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED HOMELESSNESS IN ATLANTA. WE STRIVE TO HELP FAMILIES BREAK THE CYCLE OF GENERATIONAL POVERTY BY PROVIDING CHILDREN WITH AN EXCELLENT EDUCATION AND COLLABORATIVE FAMILY SUPPORT. 100% OF STUDENTS SERVED AT TAS HAVE EXPERIENCED HOMELESSNESS AND THE COMPLEX TRAUMA ASSOCIATED WITH IT. THE SCHOOL'S PROGRAMS ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO SERVE THE WHOLE FAMILY AND END THE CYCLE OF GENERATIONAL POVERTY FOR THOSE WE SERVE. THE SCHOOL WELCOMED ITS FIRST CLASS OF 12 PRE-K STUDENTS IN 2018, AND HAS ADDED A GRADE EACH YEAR, WITH PLANS TO CONTINUE UNTIL WE SERVE GRADES PRE-K THROUGH 8TH GRADE. CURRENTLY, TAS SERVES 45 CHILDREN IN GRADES PRE-K THROUGH 2ND GRADE AND IS NOW HIRING TEACHERS TO ADD A 3RD GRADE DURING THE UPCOMING 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR. TOO OFTEN, CHILDREN AND THEIR EDUCATIONAL FUTURES ARE THE COLLATERAL DAMAGE OF FAMILY HOMELESSNESS. AT TAS, WE BELIEVE THAT CHILDREN EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IN A SCHOOL WHERE THEIR UNIQUE NEEDS ARE RECOGNIZED AND MET. TAS ACCOMPLISHES THIS THROUGH SMALL CLASS SIZE, INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION, TRAUMA INFORMED TEACHING AND LEARNING AND EMPHASIS ON SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND RECOGNITION OF THE KEY ROLE FAMILIES PLAY IN A CHILD'S ACADEMIC SUCCESS THROUGH AN INTENSIVE FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM. TAS DOES NOT CHARGE TUITION, AND AFTER CARE, TRANSPORTATION, MEALS AND SNACKS, UNIFORMS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES ARE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE. WE WORK CLOSELY WITH OUR PARTNERS INCLUDING THE RICHMONT TRAUMA CENTER, PARTNERS FOR HOME, UNITED WAY, RESTORATION ATLANTA, CROSSROADS COMMUNITY MINISTRIES AND OTHERS TO PROVIDE OUR FAMILIES WITH THE SERVICES THEY NEED TO ADDRESS PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH NEEDS AND REALIZE ACADEMIC SUCCESS FOR THEIR CHILDREN.
