THE HOUSING NEEDS OF APPROVED VETERANS WHICH THE CHAPTER ASSISTS ARE OFTEN TIMES URGENT. THE CHAPTER'S ABILITY TO ADDRESS THESE NEEDS IN A TIMELY AND EFFECTIVE MANNER DEPENDS HEAVILY ON THE FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF INDIVIDUAL DONORS, FOUNDATIONS, AND BUSINESSES. WHEN THE URGENT HOUSING NEEDS ARE MET, THE VETERANS' QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVES AS THEY ARE ABLE TO LIVE IN A SAFE AND ACCESSIBLE HOME. OPERATION VETERAN HOME RENOVATION (OVHR), A CAMPAIGN THAT WORKS IN TANDEM WITH NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES AND CREDIT UNIONS AROUND THE COUNTRY WAS IN ITS THIRD YEAR IN 2019. THIS ENABLED THE CHAPTER TO REACH EVEN MORE VETERANS ACROSS THE STATE WITH COORDINATED EFFORTS FROM COMMUNITY PARTNERS. THE OVHR CAMPAIGN SPREAD AWARENESS AND SOLUTIONS TO VETERANS IN REGIONS THAT WERE UNTOUCHED BY THE CHAPTER IN THE PAST.THE CHAPTER'S THREE LARGEST PROJECTS STARTED AND COMPLETED IN 2019 WERE AS FOLLOWS:PROJECT ONE WAS FOR A VETERAN AND HIS WIFE. THE CHAPTER PAINTED THE EXTERIOR OF THEIR HOME, REMODELED THE BATHROOM TO ADA STANDARDS, AND INSTALLED AN NEW ROOF AND NEW GUTTERS AND DOWNSPOUTS. ALSO INSTALLED WAS A STAIRLIFT FROM THE FIRST TO THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE VETERANS HOME TO GIVE THE VETERAN MORE MOBILITY IN HIS HOME. TWO PEOPLE BENEFITED FROM THIS PROJECT.PROJECT TWO WAS FOR A VETERAN. THE CHAPTER REPLACED THE ROOF OF THE VETERAN'S HOME, INSTALLED NEW GUTTERS AND DOWNSPOUTS, REPLACED WINDOWS AND ENTRY DOORS, REPAIRED CEILING IN KITCHEN DUE TO DAMAGE CAUSED BY LEAK, REMODELED KITCHEN DAMAGED BY LEAK, REPAIRED AND REMODELED BATHROOM AS VETERAN HAD NO RUNNING WATER AND WAS USING OUTSIDE GARDEN HOSE TO SHOWER. ONE PERSON WAS BENEFITED BY THIS PROJECT.PROJECT THREE WAS FOR A FEMALE VETERAN IN NEED. THE CHAPTER REPLACED HER ENTRY DOORS, INSTALLED NEW FURNACE AND HVAC, INSTALLED NEW ROOF AND NEW GUTTERS AND DOWNSPOUTS. ONE PERSON WAS BENEFITED BY THIS PROJECT.
