MIRY'S LIST VOLUNTEERS MEET WITH VULNERABLE POPULATION FAMILIES, HELP ASSESS ANY UNIQUE MATERIAL NEEDS THEY MAY HAVE FOR BASIC HOUSEHOLD FUNCTIONING AND SELF-CARE AND THEN CREATE DIGITAL WISH LISTS BASED ON THE FAMILY'S UNIQUE MATERIAL NEEDS WHICH ARE POSTED ONLINE PUBLICLY, ALLOWING DONORS TO DIRECTLY PURCHASE WISH LIST ITEMS OR SERVICES FOR THE FAMILIES. CREATING WISHLISTS AND PROVIDING SUPPLIES AND NECESSITIESPROGRAM OBJECTIVE: TO CREATE WISHLISTS AND PROVIDE SUPPLIES AND THE UNIQUE MATERIAL ITEMS EACH VULNERABLE POPULATION FAMILY NEEDS TO SURVIVE. FIRST, MIRY'S LIST VOLUNTEERS MEET WITH EACH FAMILY TO SURVEY AND ASSESS THEIR UNIQUE MATERIAL NEEDS. THEN USING THE INFORMATION GATHERED, THE VOLUNTEERS CREATE INDIVIDUALIZED ONLINE REGISTRIES AND WISH LISTS FOR EACH VULNERABLE POPULATION FAMILY. THESE LISTS ARE THEN PROMOTED ONLINE VIA SOCIAL MEDIA SITES, SUCH AS FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, AND TWITTER, AS WELL AS MIRY'S LIST EMAIL NEWSLETTER, TO ATTRACT THE ATTENTION OF POTENTIAL DONORS. DONORS ARE THEN ABLE PURCHASE ITEMS FROM THE WISH LIST AND SAID ITEMS ARE SHIPPED DIRECTLY FROM (CONTINUE SCH O) THE THIRD-PARTY RETAILER TO THE FAMILY.COMMONLY REQUESTED SUPPLIES INCLUDE HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES SUCH AS CLEANING SUPPLIES, BEDDING, DINING UTENSILS, AND FURNITURE, AS WELL AS PERSONAL CARE SUPPLIES SUCH AS TOILETRIES AND PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS, AND FAMILY-SPECIFIC ITEMS SUCH AS DIAPERS, FORMULA, CRIBS, AND WALKERS. HOWEVER, EACH VULNERABLE POPULATION FAMILY IS UNIQUE, AND THE REQUESTED SUPPLIES OFTEN DIFFER BETWEEN EACH FAMILY. IN TIMES WHEN THE GOODWILL OF DONORS IS NOT ENOUGH, MIRY'S LIST WILL PROVIDE EMERGENCY SUPPLIES AFTER CAREFUL ASSESSMENT OF THE FAMILIES' SITUATION. THESE ARE CONSTITUTED OF GROCERIES, APPLIANCES, RENT RELIEF, AND LICENSE FEES NECESSARY FOR OBTAINING A JOB. THE LONGER TERM OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY AND UNIQUE MATERIAL ITEMS EACH NEWLY ARRIVED RECIPIENT FAMILY NEEDS IN ORDER TO REBUILD THEIR LIVES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SO THEY CAN GROW AND THRIVE.WE SERVED 257 FAMILIES TOTALING MORE THAN 1,500 INDIVIDUALS LOCATED IN LOS ANGELES, ORANGE, RIVERSIDE, AND SAN DIEGO COUNTIES.WE ESTIMATE THAT THE VALUE OF GOODS DONATED TO OUR CLIENT'S AVERAGED $1,000/DAY
HOSTING COMMUNITY DINNERSPROGRAM OBJECTIVE: MIRY'S LIST ORGANIZES COMMUNITY DINNERS WHEREBY MIRY'S LIST HOSTS DINNERS FOR VULNERABLE POPULATION FAMILIES AND INTERESTED MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THESE DINNERS ALLOW NEWLY ARRIVED VULNERABLE POPULATION FAMILIES TO MEET AND SOCIALIZE WITH MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WITH WHOM THEY WOULD NOT OTHERWISE BE ACQUAINTED. THESE DINNERS ALSO SERVE TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON THE CULTURE AND NEEDS OF THE FAMILIES. ATTENDEES ARE ALSO GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO DONATE MONEY DIRECTLY TO THE ORGANIZATION (CONTINUE SCH O)IN ADDITION TO COMMUNITY DINNERS, MIRY'S LIST ALSO OFFERS A PARTNERSHIP WITH VARIOUS CORPORATIONS LOOKING TO ENRICH ITS EMPLOYEES' CULTURAL EXPOSURE BY OFFERING CATERING SERVICES PROVIDED BY A NEW ARRIVAL FAMILY. IN THIS PARTNERSHIP, A NEW ARRIVAL FAMILY COOKS FOOD AUTHENTIC TO THEIR CULTURE AND PROVIDES INSIGHT INTO THEIR REFUGEE EXPERIENCE DURING THESE EVENTS AS PART OF A SPEAKER SERIES THAT ALLOWS FOR AN OPEN FORUM WITH QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. PROCEEDS OF THE EVENT GO TO THE FAMILY AS A WAY OF STARTING THEIR FUTURE SMALL BUSINESS, THUS, SUPPORTING THEIR CAREER DEVELOPMENT. THE LONGER TERM OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO CREATE A SOCIAL ATMOSPHERE TO OPEN UP THE COMMUNITY TO BOTH THE NEWLY ARRIVED VULNERABLE POPULATION FAMILIES AND MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO ESTABLISH COMMUNITY COHESION.DURING 2017, WE HELD 12 COMMUNITY DINNERS.
PROVIDING COMMUNITY SUPPORTPROGRAM OBJECTIVE: MIRY'S LIST ORGANIZES OTHER SOCIAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES FOR VULNERABLE POPULATION FAMILIES AND INTERESTED MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO RECEIVE AND GIVE COMMUNITY SUPPORT.
