WE ARE THE OFFICIAL NON-PROFIT PARTNER OF THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF SANITATION (DSNY). OUR MISSION IS TWO-FOLD: TO CELEBRATE AND SUPPORT THE ESSENTIAL SANITATION WORKFORCE AND ADVANCE THE DEPARTMENT'S AMBITIOUS ZERO-WASTE AGENDA. WE ACCOMPLISH THIS BY FOSTERING INNOVATIVE PUBLIC/PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN DSNY, BUSINESSES, AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. OUR PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT, EDUCATION, AND CAPACITY-BUILDING PROGRAMS SUPPORT DSNY IN ACHIEVING OUR SHARED VISION FOR A HEALTHIER, CLEANER, MORE SUSTAINABLE NYC.

COVID-19 RELIEF. IN RESPONSE TO THE GLOBAL COVID-19 CRISIS AND THE IMMENSE IMPACT IT HAS HAD IN NEW YORK CITY, THE SANITATION FOUNDATION CREATED THE DSNY COVID-19 RELIEF FUND TO SUPPORT THE FRONTLINE ESSENTIAL WORKERS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF SANITATION. THROUGH THE COVID-19 RELIEF FUND, THE ORGANIZATION PURCHASED DESPERATELY NEEDED SUPPLIES AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR FRONTLINE SANITATION WORKERS AND HIGHLIGHTED THEIR DEDICATION AND RESOLVE IN THE FACE OF THIS CRISIS. IN FY2021, THE ORGANIZATION SPENT DOWN THE REMAINING FUNDS RAISED IN FY2020 AND DEDICATED FOR THIS PURPOSE.
REFASHION WEEK. THE SANITATION FOUNDATION IS THE HOST AND OFFICIAL NON-PROFIT PARTNER OF REFASHION WEEK, AN INITIATIVE AIMED AT CREATING AWARENESS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF THE FASHION INDUSTRY AND ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO BE MORE CONSCIOUS CONSUMERS. THE PROGRAM IS A WEEKLONG SERIES OF EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS FEATURING VARIOUS STAKEHOLDERS WORKING TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABILITY IN THE FASHION AND CLOTHING INDUSTRY AND THE AMOUNT OF TEXTILE WASTE SENT TO LANDFILLS.
SANITATION MUSEUM. THE ORGANIZATION IS IN EARLY PLANNING STAGES OF THE FIRST MUSEUM DEDICATED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF SANITATION'S RICH HISTORY AND ONGOING WORK TO KEEP NYC ALIVE. THIS MUSEUM WILL EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT, AND CREATE COMMUNITIES DEDICATED TO WASTE REDUCTION AND MANAGEMENT; PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR NEW YORK CITY'S WASTE ISSUES; AND CELEBRATE DSNY'S VITAL ROLE IN MAINTAINING A HEALTHY, SAFE, CLEAN, AND LIVABLE CITY.
