PAJARO VALLEY PREVENTION AND STUDENT ASSISTANCE INC'S MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES OF THE PAJARO VALLEY BY PROVIDING HEALTH EDUCATION, COUNSELING AND PREVENTION SERVICES, AND BY ADVOCATING FOR PUBLIC POLICIES THAT PROTECT THE HEALTH OF OUR COMMUNITY.

WE ARE COMMITTED TO PROTECTING THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR FAMILIES THOUGH THE DELIVERY OF OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. WE SERVE OVER 7,000 CHILDREN ANNUALLY WITH OVER 700 PARENT AND CAREGIVERS RECEIVING PARENTAL EDUCATION AND SUPPORT. THIS YEAR, IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC, PVPSA ESTABLISHED FINANCIAL AND FOOD ASSISTANCE SUPPORTS FOR THE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IT SERVES. OVER 600 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES BENEFITED FROM THESE SUPPORTS DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR AND WERE AFFORDED THE EDUCATION NEEDED TO STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY DURING THE PANDEMIC. OUR COUNSELING PROGRAMS INCLUDE KIDS KORNER ELEMENTARY COUNSELING PROGRAM, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING SERVICES, TOBACCO USE PREVENTION AND EDUCATION, ALCOHOL AND DRUG PREVENTION AND TREATMENT AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES THROUGH AN ESTABLISHED PARTNERSHIP WITH SANTA CRUZ AND MONTEREY COUNTIES WHICH ARE AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT OUR SCHOOLS IN THE PAJARO VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. OUR YOUTH RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PROGRAMS SEEK TO REPAIR THE HARM BY INVOLVING THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY IN REHABILITATING OFFENDERS AND HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR BEHAVIOR INSTEAD OF CONCENTRATING ON PUNISHING OR TREATING DELINQUENT YOUTH. 92% OF YOUTH REFERRED TO PVPSA AS A RESULT OF COMMITTING THEIR FIRST NONVIOLENT MISDEMEANOR, SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE CAMINOS PROGRAM OR THE PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS PROGRAM AND DID NOT RE-OFFEND SIX MONTHS POST COMPLETION. OUR YOUTH PREVENTION PROGRAMS, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON PREVENTION, PROVIDE DRUG, TOBACCO AND GANG PREVENTION EDUCATION TO K-12TH GRADE YOUTH. THE VALOR SCHOOL DROP OUT PROGRAM CONDUCTED OVER 500 STUDENT HOME VISITATIONS TO AID STUDENTS WHO EXPERIENCED CHALLENGES DURING THE DISTANCE LEARNING PANDEMIC YEAR.
