SEE SCHEDULE OSOCIETY FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS CONNECTS AUDIENCES WITH EXCEPTIONAL ARTISTS THROUGH DIVERSE PERFORMANCES AND LEARNING EXPERIENCES. WE IGNITE AND CULTIVATE PASSION FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS AND TOGETHER WE EXPLORE THE VAST LANDSCAPE OF ARTISTIC EXPRESSION TO DISCOVER NEW UNDERSTANDING ABOUT OURSELVES, CREATE COMMUNITY, INSPIRE DIALOGUE, AND ENRICH OUR WORLD.

SPA OFFERS CULTURALLY DIVERSE PROGRAMMING RANGING FROM WORLD-RENOWNED MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER, SPEAKERS AND A VARIETY OF OTHER PERFORMANCE-BASED EVENTS THAT ENGAGE A WIDE RANGE OF AUDIENCE DEMOGRAPHICS. EVENTS ARE PRESENTED IN THE HOUSTON AREA WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE VARIETY OF PERFORMANCES AND THE INCLUSION OF INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATION THAT CELEBRATES THE DIVERSITY OF OUR COMMUNITY. PROGRAMMING IS PARTIALLY UNDERWRITTEN BY INDIVIDUALS DONORS AS WELL AS CORPORATIONS AND FOUNDATIONS TO ACHIEVE THE GOAL OF MAKING THESE WORLD-CLASS PERFORMANCES AFFORDABLE FOR ALL AUDIENCES.
SPA'S EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMMING INCLUDES A WIDE VARIETY OF EVENTS THAT ALLOW AUDIENCES TO ACCESS, DISCOVER, AND CREATE IN THE ARTS. THESE EVENTS ENGAGE STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND THE PUBLIC. PROGRAMMING INCLUDES PRE-PERFORMANCE ACTIVITIES AND POST-PERFORMANCE TALKS THAT ALLOW AUDIENCE MEMBERS TO ENGAGE DIRECTLY WITH VISITING ARTISTS. IN ADDITION, WE HOLD NUMEROUS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE MASTER CLASSES, TEACHERS WORKSHOPS, MINI PERFORMANCES, AND CONVERSATIONS THAT SUPPORT COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WITH TOURING ARTISTS THROUGH UNIQUE, PERSONAL, AND HANDS-ON LEARNING EXPERIENCES. OUR ANNUAL STUDENT ART CONTEST REACHES PRE-K THROUGH 12TH GRADE STUDENTS ACROSS THE GREATER HOUSTON AREA, WITH A DIFFERENT THEME EACH YEAR INSPIRED BY SPA'S MAINSTAGE PERFORMANCES. THIS YEAR'S THEME "INGENUITY" ENCOURAGED STUDENTS TO EXPLORE CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING AND COMMUNITY THROUGH THEIR ARTWORK. IN SPITE OF THE CHALLENGES SURROUNDING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WE RECEIVED SUBMISSIONS FROM OVER 500 STUDENTS AND CREATED A VIRTUAL AWARDS CEREMONY AND SHOWCASE EXPERIENCE FOR THE WINNING STUDENTS. AFTER ALL OF OUR APRIL, MAY, AND JUNE PROGRAMMING WAS CANCELLED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, EDUCATION EFFORTS PIVOTED TOWARD SPREADING JOY AND POSITIVITY THROUGH THE ARTS VIA THE SPA CREATIVE CONNECTION VIRTUAL SERIES, MADE UP OF SUBMITTED VIDEOS FROM BOTH LOCAL AND TOURING ARTISTS. THESE VIDEOS AND ALL OF OUR FREE, VIRTUAL PROGRAMS LIVE ON THE SPA WEBSITE AND YOUTUBE CHANNEL.
