IN 2021 SOS ALLIANCE CONTINUED ITS ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, AND PERMANENT PROTECTION WORK TO PROTECT THE LAND, WATER, WILDLIFE AND NATURAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF CENTRAL TEXAS. OUR SMALL STAFF OF LEGAL AND POLICY ADVOCATES AND EDUCATORS, WORKING WITH LEADING AREA SCIENTISTS AND EXPERTS, WORKED TO KEEP OUR STREAMS AND SPRINGS CLEAN AND FLOWING, AND PROTECT OUR VULNERABLE WATER RESOURCES AND ENDANGERED SPECIES HABITATS FROM HIGHWAY EXPANSION PROJECTS, PUMPING PROJECTS, AND PROPOSED MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER DISCHARGES, AMONG OTHER THREATS. WE DEFENDED THE SAVE OUR SPRINGS ORDINANCE, AND SUPPORTED LOCAL POLICIES TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS AND THE INCREASED FLOODING, EROSION, DROUGHT, AND HEAT THAT COMES WITH GLOBAL WARMING. IN 2021 WE ALSO WORKED TO IMPROVE AND EXPAND OUR BARTON SPRINGS UNIVERSITY (BSU) WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO REACH MORE HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS AND NEW CITIZENS ACROSS THE REGION. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE BARTON SPRINGS 101 PRESENTATIONS IN SCHOOLS, SNORKEL TOURS OF BARTON SPRINGS AND BARTON CREEK, AND HIKES ON THE GREENBELT. IN 2021 WE HELD THE BARTON SPRINGS UNIVERSITY DAY VIRTUALLY. IN 2019 SOS ALLIANCE WORKED TO FACILITATE TRANSACTIONS AND ADVOCATE FOR EXPANDING PARKS, PRESERVES, AND CONSERVATION EASEMENT LANDS ACROSS THE CENTRAL TEXAS EDWARDS AQUIFER REGION.
