GHF EVENTS, DICKENS ON THE STRAND AND HISTORIC HOMES TOUR, PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN HERITAGE TOURISM ON GALVESTON ISLAND ATTRACTING PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER TEXAS AND BEYOND. IN ADDITION TO THESE LARGE EVENTS, GHF IS HOST TO GALVESTON ISLAND BEACH REVUE, TALL SHIPS GALVESTON AND MANY OTHER SMALLER EVENTS HELD AT OUR HISTORIC VENUES. OVER 2,000 VOLUNTEERS ARE UTILIZED FOR GHF EVENTS.
GHF PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION SERVICES ADVANCES THE PRESERVATION AND REVITALIZATION OF GALVESTON'S HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOODS, BUILDINGS AND CULTURAL RESOURCES. THIS DEPARTMENT OVERSEES THE PRESERVATION RESOURCE CENTER, ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE WAREHOUSE, REVOLVING FUND AND A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY PROGRAMS INCLUDING WINDSTORM EXEMPTION AND HISTORIC TAX CREDIT CONSULTING.
GHF HISTORIC PROPERTIES INCLUDE THE OPERATION OF TWO MUSEUM SITES, THE 1892 BISHOP'S PALACE AND THE TEXAS SEAPORT MUSEUM. GHF MAINTAINS AND OPERATES FIVE OTHER HISTORIC SITES AS RENTAL VENUES AND A COLLECTIONS FACILITY. THROUGH THE TEXAS SEAPORT MUSEUM, WE OPERATE THE SEAGULL II, OUR MARITIME AND HISTORIC HARBOR TOUR VESSEL. EDUCATION AND GROUP TOURS PLAY A MAJOR FUNCTION IN BRINGING VISITORS TO THE SITES.
