NORTH BY NORTHEAST COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER IS THE ONLY MEDICAL CLINIC IN OREGON DEVOTED TO AFRICAN AMERICAN/BLACK HEALTH. WE EXIST TO IMPROVE HEALTH OUTCOMES AND ADVANCE HEALTH EQUITY BY OFFERING PRIMARY CARE SERVICES AND HEALTH EDUCATION AND PROMOTION FOCUSED ON THE AFRICAN AMERICAN/BLACK COMMUNITY.

PRIMARY CARE CLINIC IN NORTHEAST PORTLAND - SERVICES INCLUDE PRIMARY CARE MEDICAL SERVICES TO UNINSURED AND MEDICAID-INSURED ADULTS, HEALTH INSURANCE ENROLLMENT ASSISTANCE, AND COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION AND EDUCATION, WITH A FOCUS ON PRIMARY CARE FOR THE AFRICAN AMERICAN/BLACK COMMUNITY. PRIMARY CARE PATIENTS SERVED: 740 PATIENTS - 1,311 VISITS; INSURANCE ENROLLMENT VISITS: 285; COVID VACCINATIONS - 1,740.
THE CUTS & CHECKS BARBERSHOP HYPERTENSION PROGRAM PROMOTES HEART HEALTH AMONG AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN BY PROVIDING BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS IN LOCAL BARBERSHIPS AND BY EMPOWERING BARBERS AND BARBERING STUDENTS TO BE COMMUNITY HEALTH ADVOCATES THROUGH EDUCATION, INCENTIVES AND SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PROVIDED TO STUDENTS IN THE BARBERING PROGRAM AT CHAMPIONS BARBERING INSTITUTE WHO SHOW AN INTEREST IN AND APTITUDE FOR COMMUNITY HEALTH. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES 24 HOURS OF COMMUNITY HEALTH TRAINING TO ALL BARBERS ENROLLLED IN THE INSTITUTE. TWO BARBERSHOP CONVENING VIRTUAL SESSIONS WERE HELD IN 2021, TO BRING TOGETHER HEALTH PROGRAM COORDINATORS AND BARBERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY TO DISCUSS BEST PRACTICES, CHALLENGES AND SUCCESSES. 445 INDIVIDUALS SERVED.
COVID 19 RESPONSE - THE ORGANIZATION LAUNCHED SEVERAL COVID-19 RESPONSE ACTIVITIES INCLUDING PROVIDING DIRECT SUPPORT TO QUALIFIYING INDIVIDUALS IN THE FORM OF CASH, GROCERY STORE GIFT CARDS, INTERNET SERVICE VOUCHERS, FOOD BOXES, PPE AND LAPTOPS. IN ADDITION THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED TESTING AND CARE ADVICE RELATED TO COVID-19 SYMPTOMS AND EXPOSURE. 683 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED.
OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE METRO MASTER RECYCLERS PROGRAM AND THE SAFE HOMES HEALTHY HOMES PROGRAM.
