THE FIRST TEE SUMMER CAMP PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO ATTEND OUR CHAPTER FIVE DAYS A WEEK FOR SIX WEEKS DURING THE SUMMER. DURING THIS TIME THE CHILDREN CONTINUE TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS IN LIFE SKILLS AS WELL AS PLAYING ABILITY ON THE GOLF COURSE. SUMMER CAMP IS A FUN,SAFE AND ORGANIZED ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE FIRST TEE NINE CORE VALUES AND NINE HEALTHY HABITS ARE APPLIED EACH DAY WITH EMPHASIS ON TASKS USING THE CORE VALUES DURING CAMP, AT HOME AND IN THE COMMUNITY.
THE FIRST TEE - NAPLES/COLLIER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEAM GOLF PROGRAM CONSISTS OF 12 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN COLLIER COUNTY. THROUGH A TRYOUT PROCESS RUN BY OUR CHAPTER AND SCHOOLS, EACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SELECTS A MAXIMUM OF 10-12 PLAYERS TO REPRESENT THEIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEAM. IF MORE THAN 10-12 STUDENTS QUALIFY, THE SCHOOL FORMS TWO TEAMS OF 10 PLAYERS EACH. THE TEAMS ARE MADE UP OF BOYS AND GIRLS. PRIOR TO EACH MATCH, SIX PLAYERS ARE SELECTED TO REPRESENT THEIR SCHOOL IN A MATCH; THE FOUR LOWEST SCORES OUT OF THE SIX PLAYERS ARE COUNTED AS THE "TEAM" SCORE FOR EACH MATCH. THE GOLF MATCH COMPETITION CONSISTS OF 4-5 HOLES, 2 TIMES A WEEK FOR EACH TEAM FOR SIX WEEKS. EACH COMPETITION STARTS AT 4:00 PM AND CONSISTS OF TWO - THREE TEAMS. AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT IS HELD ON THE SATURDAY AFTER REGULAR SEASON. PARENTS AS WLL AS A TEAM COACH IS ASSIGNED TO WALK WITH EACH GROUP DURING THE MATCH.
THE FIRST TEE LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED AROUND TEACHING YOUNG PEOPLE THE GAME OF GOLF, AS WELL AS HELPING THEM UNDERSTAND AND ULTIMATELY DEVELOP THE FIRST TEE NINE CORE VALUES: HONESTY,INTEGRITY, SPORTSMANSHIP, RESPECT, CONFIDENCE, RESPONSIBILITY, PERSEVERANCE, COURTESY AND JUDGMENT.THE FIRST TEE LIFE SKILLS CURRICULUM WAS DEVELOPED BY EXPERTS IN THE FIELD OF POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THROUGH SPORTS AND IS DELIVERED BY CARING COACHES WHO HAVE BEEN FORMALLY TRAINED BY THE FIRST TEE.AT THE FIRST TEE LIFE SKILLS, GOLF AND LIFE LESSONS ARE SEAMLESSLY INCORPORATED INTO EACH EXPERIENCE. IN ADDITION TO COVERING FUNDAMENTALS OF THE GOLF SWING AND THE GAME, A SAMPLE OF LIFE SKILLS LESSONS INCLUDE:1. COMMUNICATION: HOW TO MAKE A PROPER INTRODUCTION WHEN MEETING SOMEONE NEW AND HOW TO EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE WITH OTHERS,2. SELF-MANAGEMENT: TECHNIQUES FOR MANAGING THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS,3. GOAL SETTING: SETTING ATTAINABLE GOALS TO REACH DESIRED DREAMS,4. OVERCOMING CHALLENGES: STRATEGIES TO ADAPT MANAGE AND OVERCOME CHALLENGES.
