CLAY COUNTY FARM BUREAU FUNDS THE EMERGING LEADERS IN AGRICULTURE PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM MIRRORS THE YF & R LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, BUT IS ADMINISTERED TO YOUTH IN GRADES 9 THRU 12. YOUTH COMPLETE LEADERSHIP- TRAINING CURRICULUM, TOUR FARMS, VISIT TALLAHASSEE AND MEET WITH LEGISLATORS TO DISCUSS IDEAS ON HOW TO IMPROVE AGRICULTURE EDUCATION WITHIN THEIR SCHOOLS, AGRICULTURE POLICY AND LEARN HOW THE LEGISLATURE WORKS. THIS PROGRAM ALIGNS WITH OUR MISSION TO PROMOTE GOOD AG POLICY BY INTRODUCING AND EDUCATING YOUTH ON HOW THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS WORKS.
CLAY COUNTY FARM BUREAU PROVIDED PLANNING, FINANCIAL AND VOLUNTEER SUPPORT FOR OUR EXPANDED AG VENTURES FIELD TRIP PROGRAM IN A BOX PROGRAM IN CLAY COUNTY. WE PARTNERED WITH THE CLAY COUNTY FAIR, UF IFAS EXTENSION AND CATTLEMEN'S TO PLAN FIELD TRIPS FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IN THE COUNTY. STUDENTS WERE TO BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT LIVESTOCK, HORTICULTURE, BEES, OUR WATER'S ECOSYSTEM AND MANY OTHER TOPICS IMPORTANT TO AGRICULTURE THROUGH HANDS ON LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND LECTURES. THIS PROGRAM ALIGNS WITH OUR MISSION TO EDUCATE YOUTH ON WHERE THEIR FOOD COMES BY TEACHING THEM ABOUT LIVESTOCK HANDLING AND CARE, AS WELL AS THE FINANCIAL A SPECT OF RAISING LIVESTOCK.
CLAY COUNTY FARM BUREAU SHOWDOWN IN THE SPRINGS SWINE SHOW AT THE CLAY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS BROUGHT 200 PARTICIPANTS. PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS INCLUDED CLAY COUNTY FARM BUREAU MEMBERS, IFAS, CATTLEMEN'S, FFA, AND 4-H MEMBERS. YOUTH PARTICIPANTS ENTERED THIS SHOW TO COMPETE FOR BEST MARKET HOG AND SHOWMANSHIP. IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH TO LEARN BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES (FEEDING PROGRAMS, MEDICAL CARE, GROOMING, HOUSING AND FINANCES) FOR THE CARE OF SWINE FROM BIRTH TO SHOW DAY.
