WE FOSTER AND ENCOURAGE YOUTH INVOLVEMENT IN AGRICULTURE AT DIFFERENT LEVELS. WE HOSTED A YOUTH SPEECH CONTES VIA ZOOM. THE PURPOSE OF THE CONTEST IS TO MAKE THE YOUTH AWARE OF HOW AGRICULTURE IMPACTS OR SOCIETY AND HELP THEM BECOME BETTER PUBLIC SPEAKERS AND REPRESENT AGRICULTURE IN A PUBLIC FORUM.
OUR COUNTY PROMOTES THE BETTERMENT OF AGRICULTURE THROUGH FARM TOURS. VOLUSIA COUNTY HAS DISTINCT AND DIVERSE AGRICULTURE. THE WEST SIDE FEATURES CITRUS, FERNS, AQUACULTURE, AND CATTLE, TO NAME A FEW. WHILE THE EAST SIDE FEATURES VEGETABLES. PARTICIPANTS TOUR BOTH SIDES OF THE COUNTY. THE TOURS FACILITATED A MEANS TO PROMOTE, EDUCATE, AND INFORM PARTICIPANTS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE. TECHNOLOGY IS EVER CHANGING AND TOURS ALLOW MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE NEW AND DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS TO IMPROVE THEIR OWN OPERATIONS.
VOLUSIA COUNTY FARM BUREAU PARTICIPATED IN FLORIDA'S AG IN THE CLASSROOM MINI GRANT PROGRAM WHICH INCREASES THE LEVEL OF SUPPORT FOR THE VALUE OF AGRICULTURE IN SCHOOLS. BY PROVIDING THESE GRANTS, WE CAN INCREASE THE LEARNING EXPERIENCES OF THE STUDENTS ADN PEAK AN INTEREST IN A VARIETY OF AREAS OF AGRICULTURE. GRANTS WERE ISSUED TO TEACHERS IN LOCAL SCHOOLS WITH PROJECTS THAT WOULD INCREASE UNDERSTANDING OF AGRICULTURE AMONG STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.
