CORE DANCE, A CONTEMPORARY DANCE ORGANIZATION, CREATES, PERFORMS, AND PRODUCES COMPELLING ORIGINAL DANCE THAT IGNITES THE CREATIVE SPIRIT AND ACTIVELY ENCOURAGES PARTICIPATION AND CONVERSATION BY AND WITH THE COMMUNITY. CREATING A CONTEXT FOR DANCE THAT IS RELEVANT IN BOTH OUR HOME CITIES AND AROUND THE GLOBE, CORE DANCE USES DANCE TO ILLUMINATE, EDUCATE AND QUESTION. IN ESSENCE, CORE DANCE IS AN ARTISTIC INCUBATOR AND CONVENER.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022, CORE DANCE OPERATED THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS:(I) COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:DYNAMIC EXCHANGE BRINGS MOVEMENT-BASED ART EXPLORATION TO UNDERSERVED AND AT-RISK PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS SERVING THE NEEDS OF ELDERS, YOUTH, RECENT ARRIVALS TO THE UNITED STATES AND PEOPLE FLEEING DOMESTIC PARTNER ABUSE AND ADDICTION. THROUGH MOVEMENT, PARTICIPANTS FOCUS ON SELF-EXPRESSION AND COMMUNICATION, FINDING WAYS TO DISCUSS AND INTERPRET THEIR OWN LIFE EXPERIENCES AND TRANSFORM THEM INTO TOOLS FOR FUTURE GROWTH.TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTES WHERE MOVEMENT-BASED TEACHING ARTISTS ARE INVITED TO LEARN FROM LEADERS AND INNOVATORS IN ARTS AND DANCE EDUCATION. THESE INTENSIVE, MULTI DAY EXPERIENCES STRENGTHEN THE SKILLS OF ARTS PROFESSIONALS AS AMBASSADORS AND EDUCATORS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.TEENS ACTIVATE. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO GIVE VOICE TO THE CONCERNS & FEARS, SUGGESTIONS & IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE OF TEENS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 15 AND 18. INTEGRATING THE ART FORMS OF SPOKEN WORD AND MOVEMENT, TEENS ACTIVATE THEIR IDEAS, GUIDED BY SPOKEN WORD ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY IN COLLABORATION WITH CORE DANCE TEACHING ARTISTS. (II) FIELDWORK:FIELDWORK IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ARTISTS, CREATORS AND MAKERS TO COME TOGETHER ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE TO EXPLORE NEW WORK AND TO REFINE THEIR PRACTICES. DESIGNED ON A PEER FEEDBACK MODEL, PARTICIPANTS ARE ACCOUNTABLE TO ONE ANOTHER IN THEIR EXPLORATION. THE PROCESS IS LED BY A FACILITATOR WHO IS ALSO A CREATOR AND CULMINATES IN A PUBLIC SHOWCASE OF THE WORK DEVELOPED. CORE DANCE ASSUMED OWNERSHIP/STEWARDSHIP OF THIS PROGRAM IN 2021. IN 2023 CORE DANCE WILL HOST A GATHERING OF FIELDWORK USERS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY TO EXPLORE WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE PROGRAM ON A NATIONAL BASIS.(III) ARTIST RESIDENCIES:CORE DANCE IS A LEADING PROVIDER OF LONG- AND MEDIUM-TERM ARTIST RESIDENCIES. RESIDENT ARTISTS WORK ON THEIR OWN PROJECTS AND ARE GIVEN STUDIO TIME. RESIDENT ARTISTS CAN COME FROM ANY GENRE SUCH AS SPOKEN WORD, THEATRE, WRITING AND SCREEN DANCE. ARTISTS WORKING WITH CORE DANCE HAVE TOURED IN FRANCE, ISRAEL, MEXICO, GUATEMALA, SWEDEN, GERMANY, CROATIA, THE REPUBLIC OF GEORGIA AND POLAND. THE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF AT CORE DANCE COMES FROM THE ARTISTIC WORLD AS WELL, ALL OF THEM ARE PRACTICING ARTISTS AND SKILLED ADMINISTRATORS.(IV) SALON:CORE DANCE EMBRACES THE IDEA THAT ART IS A CONVERSATION. DURING THE FALL AND SPRING SESSIONS, CORE DANCE OFTEN PRESENTS EVENING SALONS. AUDIENCES ENJOY LIGHT REFRESHMENTS AS THEY OBSERVE ART IN CREATION AND OFFER FEEDBACK IN A FACILITATED SETTING. THIS PROGRAM IS ON HIATUS.(V) LUNCHTIME IN THE STUDIO:LUNCHTIME IN THE STUDIO IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE COMMUNITY TO MEET THE ARTISTS OF CORE DANCE FOR LUNCH, CONVERSATION AND A SNEAK PEEK AT WORK IN PROCESS OR COMING UP IN THE SEASON. PARTICIPANTS ARE TREATED TO FREE LUNCH AND BECOME PART OF OUR CREATIVE PROCESS. THIS PROGRAM IS ON HIATUS.(VI) ENCORE DANCE ON FILM:ENCORE DANCE ON FILM IS A YEARLY DANCE FILM FESTIVAL CURATED BY DANCE FILM PROFESSIONALS. THE EVENING EVENT FEATURES WORK FROM ARTISTS ALL OVER THE WORLD AND COINCIDES WITH THE OPENING OF THE DECATUR ARTS FESTIVAL IN GEORGIA.(VII) REEL ART:REEL ART ALLOWS CORE DANCE TO COMMISSION IMMERSIVE MOVEMENT FOR FILM WORKS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR SHOWING ON OUR DECATUR, GA STUDIO STOREFRONT WINDOWS.
