SUPPORT FOR THE LIBRARY FOR THE BLIND OF NORTH CAROLINA AND TO PROMOTE LITERACY FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED AND BLIND INDIVIDUALS WITHIN NORTH CAROLINA.

Part 3 - Line 4a

DURING THE 2023 FISCAL YEAR, 420 LARGE PRINT TITLES WERE PURCHASED AND 3 BOOKS WERE TRANSCRIBED INTO BRAILLE. 72 DVDS WERE PURCHASED FOR THE DESCRIPTIVE VIDEO PROGRAM. THE FRIENDS RECORDED 4 DIGITAL BOOKS, 33 MAGAZINES AND 4 DIGITAL NEWSLETTERS IN THEIR STUDIO. THE FRIENDS PROVIDED FUNDS TO PURCHASE PRIZES FOR WRITING AND READING CONTESTS AT THE LIBRARY. THE 2023 CENTRAL NC BRAILLE CHALLENGE HAD 67 PARTICIPANTS. THE WINTER READING PROGRAM HAD 147 PARTICIPANTS (138 ADULTS, 9 YOUTH). THERE WERE 2 SUMMER READING PROGRAMS, ONE WITH 99 PARTICIPANTS (69 ADULTS, 30 YOUTH), AND THE OTHER A YOUTH PROGRAM WITH 9 PARTICIPANTS. THE WRITING CONTEST HAD 13 ENTRIES. THE FRIENDS ALSO ORGANIZED A VIP BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP IN RALEIGH WITH 101 PARTICIPANTS, AND A CHARLOTTE BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP WITH 72 PARTICIPANTS. THE FRIENDS ALSO HELD A VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION EVENT IN SEPTEMBER 2022 WITH 36 ATTENDEES. ALL TOLD, THE FRIENDS HAD 544 PARTICIPANTS OR ATTENDEES IN ITS FY23 PROGRAMS.
