HIGHLANDS NATURE CENTER HIGHLANDS BIOLOGICAL FOUNDATION OPERATES A NATURE CENTER WITH A FULLTIME EDUCATION SPECIALIST WHO OVERSEES A WIDE ARRAY OF PLACE-BASED, EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES AT THE HIGHLANDS NATURE CENTER, FOCUSING ON THE SPECTACULAR BIODIVERSITY OF THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN REGION. OPERATING THE NATURE CENTER ITSELF PROVIDES MORE THAN 10,000 VISITORS EVERY YEAR WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE EXHIBITS, MEET ANIMAL AMBASSADORS, AND PARTICIPATE IN DAILY PROGRAMS ALL AT NO COST. ADDITIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES INCLUDE SPECIAL EVENTS, SUMMER DAY CAMPS, AND THE ANNUAL ZAHNER CONSERVATION LECTURE SERIES, AND FAMILY-BASED PROGRAMS TWO EDUCATION SPECIALISTS ALSO PROVIDE OUTREACH IN THE FORM OF PROGRAMMING FOR

NORTH CAMPUS IMPROVEMENTS AT THE HIGHLANDS BIOLOGICAL STATION - HIGHLANDS BIOLOGICAL FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE THE NORTH CAMPUS, FEATURING A NEW ENTRY TO THE CAMPUS OF THE HIGHLANDS BIOLOGICAL STATION. NORTH CAMPUS INCLUDES AN OVER-THE-WATER TEACHING PAVILION, POLLINATOR GARDEN, KIOSK, ENTRY TERRACE AND PARKING.
3. RESEARCH & EDUCATION - HIGHLANDS BIOLOGICAL FOUNDATION AWARDED 6 RESEARCH GRANTS TO INDIVIDUALS DOING RESEARCH AT THE HIGHLANDS BIOLOGICAL STATION. THE FOUNDATION ALSO AWARDED FUNDING TO SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN RAPTOR RESEARCH TO MAKE THE STATION A BIRD BANDING PROJECT FOR THE MONITORING AVIAN PRODUCTIVITY AND SURVIVORSHIP INITIATIVE.
