DURING FY22, THE NORFOLK WAREHOUSE AND OUR PARTNER AGENCIES PROVIDED OVER 15,201,728 POUNDS OF FOOD AND GROCERY PRODUCTS (EQUIVALENT TO 12,668,106 MEALS) TO MORE THAN 800,000 INDIVIDUALS IN THE CITIES OF CHESAPEAKE, FRANKLIN, NORFOLK, PORTSMOUTH, SUFFOLK, VIRGINIA BEACH AND THE COUNTIES OF ISLE OF WIGHT, SOUTHAMPTON AND SUSSEX. ALSO, DURING FY22, THE FOODBANK LAUNCHED ITS FOURTH FOOD HUB IN THE CITY OF NORFOLK. THE COMMUNITY FEED AT JORDAN NEWBY HELD ITS FIRST COMMUNITY DISTRIBUTION ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2021. DURING ITS FIRST YEAR OF OPERATION, THE SITE PROVIDED 200,462 POUNDS (EQUIVALENT TO 167,051 MEALS) TO 9,733 UNDUPLICATED HOUSEHOLDS. THE SITE ALSO HOSTED VARIOUS COMMUNITY EVENTS FOR OUR NEIGHBORS. EVENTS INCLUDED HEALTHY COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS, NUTRITION EDUCATION SESSIONS, HIV TESTING, COVID VACCINATIONS, AND TUTORING.
DURING FY22, THE EASTERN SHORE FOOD DISTRIBUTION BRANCH AND OUR PARTNER AGENCIES PROVIDED OVER 1,985,685 POUNDS OF FOOD AND GROCERY PRODUCTS (EQUIVALENT TO 1,654,738 MEALS) TO MORE THAN 80,054 INDIVIDUALS ON VIRGINIA'S EASTERN SHORE.
DURING FY22, OUR KIDS CAFE SITES SERVED 37,579 NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED MEALS AND SNACKS AT OUR 17 SUMMER FEEDING SITES AND 69,528 NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED MEALS AND SNACKS AT OUR 11 AFTER SCHOOL FEEDING SITES THROUGHOUT SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA AND ON VIRGINIA'S EASTERN SHORE. DURING FY 22, OUR 66 BACKPACK SCHOOLS DISTRIBUTED 67,472 BAGS OF NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO ALMOST 3,700 FOOD INSECURE CHILDREN BEFORE WEEKENDS AND SCHOOL BREAKS.
