VOLUNTEERS FOUNDED TURNER HOUSE CLINIC, INC. IN 1990. DURING THE NEXT THREE DECADES, THE ORGANIZATION EVOLVED FROM A VOLUNTEER PEDIATRIC CLINIC TO A PAID-PROVIDER PRACTICE AND ACHIEVED NATIONAL RECOGNITION AS A PATIENT-CENTERED MEDICAL HOME, PROVIDING INTEGRATED PRIMARY MEDICAL, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND DENTAL SERVICES FOR ALL. EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2019, VIBRANT HEALTH RECEIVED DESIGNATION AS A FEDERALLY QUALIFIED HEALTH CENTER (FQHC) AFTER OPERATING AS A FQHC LOOK-ALIKE ORGANIZATION SINCE JANUARY 1, 2018. OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO RESPECTFUL, EMPOWERING, CULTURALLY SENSITIVE AND APPROPRIATE HIGH QUALITY HEALTH CARE FOR THE COMMUNITY, REGARDLESS OF SOCIOECONOMIC OBSTACLES. THE TARGET POPULATION CONSISTS OF UNDERSERVED AND UNINSURED CHILDREN AND ADULTS LIVING AT OR BELOW 200% OF THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL. IN 2021, 78% OF PATIENTS LIVED AT OR BELOW 200% OF THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL AND APPROXIMATELY 70% OF VISITS WERE PROVIDED TO PATIENTS LIVING AT OR BELOW 200% OF THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL. TO BETTER MEET THE NEEDS OF PATIENT FAMILIES, VIBRANT HEALTH EXPANDED WEEKDAY CLINIC HOURS TO INCLUDE MORE START TIMES BEFORE 8 AM AND MORE CLINIC HOURS AFTER 5 PM, IN ADDITION TO SATURDAY CLINIC SESSIONS. AMONG TOTAL PATIENTS, 31% WERE UNINSURED, 59% WERE MEDICAID INSURED, 8% WERE COMMERCIALLY INSURED, AND 2% WERE MEDICARE INSURED. APPROXIMATELY 65% OF PATIENTS IDENTIFIED AS HISPANIC/LATINO; 62% OF PATIENTS WERE BEST SERVED IN A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH; 1% OF PATIENTS IDENTIFIED AS MORE THAN ONE RACE. IN 2021, VIBRANT HEALTH MERGED THE KU FAMILY MEDICINE AT STATE AVENUE HEALTH CARE PRACTICE INTO OUR VIBRANT HEALTH - CENTRAL CLINIC AND ACQUIRED THE CORDELL D. MEEKS JR. CLINIC, PREVIOUSLY OPERATED BY CHILDREN'S MERCY KANSAS CITY, ADDING A FOURTH LOCATION FOR SERVICES. CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES PREVIOUSLY SERVED AT THE MEEKS CLINIC NOW HAVE ACCESS TO THE FULL SCOPE OF VIBRANT HEALTH SERVICES, INCLUDING BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE AND DENTAL CARE. VIBRANT HEALTH SERVES NEW AND EXISTING PATIENTS AT THE MEEKS LOCATION, IMPROVING EQUITABLE ACCESS AND HEALTH OUTCOMES, ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS LIVING AT OR BELOW THE 200% OF FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL. VIBRANT HEALTH HAS CONTRACTED WITH CHILDREN'S MERCY FOR PRIMARY CARE PEDIATRIC PROVIDER EMPLOYEES TO DELIVER SERVICES AT THE MEEKS LOCATION, PROMOTING CONTINUITY OF CARE. VIBRANT HEALTH OPENDED AN IN-HOUSE 340B DISCOUNT PHARMACY TO IMPROVE PATIENT ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE MEDICATIONS. AS AN INTEGRATED PRACTICE, VIBRANT HEALTH PHARMACISTS HELP PROVIDERS MONITOR MEDICATION ADHERENCE AND PROVIDE ADDITIONAL HEALTH PROMOTION AND TREATMENT OVERSIGHT, ESPECIALLY FOR PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC CARE CONDITIONS. IN 2021, VIBRANT HEALTH RENEWED PCMH RECOGNITION WITH THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE. VIBRANT HEALTH WAS RECOGNIZED BY HRSA FOR QUALITY BADGES AROUND ACCESS, HEALTH EQUITY DISPARITY REDUCER, AND PCMH. VIBRANT HEALTH ALSO RECENTLY RECEIVED A SILVER BADGE FROM THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION FOR BLOOD PRESSURE CONTROL IN OUR PATIENT POPULATION BASED OFF OUR 2021 REPORTING.
DENTAL CARIES (CAVITIES) ARE RAMPANT IN VIBRANT HEALTH PATIENTS AND MANY OF THEM HAVE RECEIVED NO PREVENTATIVE ORAL HYGIENE CARE. AS A RESULT, VIBRANT HEALTH PROVIDES A PORTABLE DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAM TO AREA SCHOOLS AND IN-CLINIC. THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES DENTAL SCREENINGS, TEETH CLEANING AND SCALING, AND THE APPLICATION OF FLUORIDE VARNISHES AND DENTAL SEALANTS. IN 2021, VIBRANT HEALTH COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION OF ITS DENTAL CLINIC ON THE 2ND FLOOR OF THE BETHANY MEDICAL BUILDING, WHICH IS THE LOCATION OF OUR VIBRANT HEALTH-CENTRAL CLINIC SITES. THE EXPANDED DENTAL CLINIC OPENED IN SEPTEMBER 2021 AND INCREASED OUR DENTAL OPERATORIES FROM THREE TO TEN. THE EXPANSION WAS NEEDED TO HELP INCREASE ACCESS TO DENTAL CARE SERVICES AND TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OUTCOMES OF UNDER SERVED ADULTS AND CHILDREN LIVING IN WYANDOTTE COUNTY, KANSAS. AN ADDITIONAL DENTIST, TWO HYGIENISTS, AND TWO DENTAL ASSISTANTS WERE HIRED IN 2021 TO EXPAND OUR DENTAL STAFF TO PROVIDE THE NEEDED SERVICES FOR OUR PATIENTS.
