THE WALTER GERLACH LIVESTOCK SHOW & AUCTION PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR FFA AND 4-H STUDENTS OF THE THE NORTHSIDE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT TO LEARN ABOUT PRODUCTION AGRICULTURE. THE STUDENTS IN THESE PROGRAMS RAISE AND CARE FOR THEIR ANIMALS FOR 4 TO 9 MONTHS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. BOTH OF THESE PROGRAMS TEACH STUDENTS LIFE SKILLS, SUCH AS PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, MONEY MANAGEMENT, AND A STRONG WORK ETHIC. OVER 90% OF THESE STUDENTS ATTEND COLLEGE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION. THE AUCTION PROVIDES MONEY FOR EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ELIGIBLE STUDENTS.
