GENERAL OPERATIONS - MMGM REOPENED TO THE PUBLIC ON APRIL 21, 20212021 AFTER EXPERIENCING MASSIVE WATER DAMAGE RESULTING FROM A FAILED HVAC SYSTEM ON OCTOBER 23, 2020. MMGM EXPERIENCED A SECOND FLOOD FROM THE HVAC SYSTEM ON MAY 20, 2021 AND REOPENED ON JUNE 25, 2021. IN-PERSON EVENTS REMAINED LIMITED. THREE IN PERSON EVENTS WERE HELD WITH A TOTAL OF 190 ATTENDEES. VIRTUAL AWARENESS OF THE MUSUEM INCREASED BY 47% VIA SOCIAL MEDIA AND 225 NEW MEMBERS JOINED IN SUPPORT OF THE MUSUEM. 14, 258 VISITORS TOURED THE MUSEUM. THE MUSEUM HAS CONTINUED TO ACQUIRE ITEMS FOR THE COLLECTIONS TO PRESERVE MAINE'S HERITAGE AND HISTORY TO ENHANCE VISITOR EXPERIENCE.
EDUCATION - MMGM LAUNCHED AN ONLINE EDUCATION LECTURE SERIES WITH SIX VIRTUAL EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS WITH A TOTAL ONLINE REACH OF 18,641.MMGM CONTINUED TO HOST ORGANIZED SCHOOL GROUPS IN 2021 FROM JUNE 2021-DECEMBER 2021 WITH 282 STUDENTS PARTICIPATING. MMGM PROVIDED ADDITIONAL VIRTUAL AND IN -PERSON SCIENCE AND MINERALOGY EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS. EIGHT SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS WITH 394 PARTICIPANTS AND SIX MINERALOGY/GEOLOGY OF MAINE TALKS WITH 100 PARTICIPANTS WERE HELD. MMGM RESEARCH LABORATORY AND OFFSITE TOURS REACHED 150 STUDENTS. THE MMGM RESEARCH LABORATORY CONTRIBUTED TWO RESEARCH PAPERS/PUBLICATIONS TO THE SCIENCE COMMUNITY.
