BASIS WASHINGTON DC OPENED IN 2012 AS THE FIRST BASIS CHARTER SCHOOL OUTSIDE OF ARIZONA AND SERVES OVER 650 STUDENTS IN GRADES 5-12 TRAVELING FROM ALL EIGHT WARDS. THE SCHOOL OPERATES ON THE PRINCIPLE THAT MATH, SCIENCE, AND THE HUMANITIES ARE NOT DISPARATE BUT COMPLEMENTARY WAYS OF COMMUNICATING AND THE BELIEF THAT ANY STUDENT CAN ACHIEVE AT HIGH LEVELS, AND THAT ANY STUDENT IS CAPABLE OF BECOMING SOMEONE WHO LOVES TO LEARN. THE BASIS HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM IS CONSISTENTLY RANKED AMONG THE TOP HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT AND THE WASHINGTON POST, AMONG OTHER PUBLICATIONS.
