Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
TO HELP THE LOST, ABANDONED, STRAY AND UNWANTED CATS AND KITTENS IN MEDINA COUNTY AND ITS SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES. AS A NONPROFIT CAT SHELTER THAT PRIMARILY TAKES ON HEALTHY, WELL-SOCIALIZED KITTENS UNDER 6 LBS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
ADOPTION CENTER - KITTEN KRAZY WAS FORMED IN MAY 2004 TO HELP THE LOST, ABANDONED, STRAY AND UNWANTED CATS AND KITTENS IN MEDINA COUNTY AND ITS SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES FIND A PLACE OF REFUGE UNTIL ADOPTION. ONCE IN OUR CARE, THE CATS ARE TYPICALLY FULLY VETTED WITHIN THE FIRST FEW HOURS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SPAY/NEUTER, WHICH IS SCHEDULED WITHIN THEIR 14-DAY QUARANTINE HOLD TO ENSURE THEY ARE HEALTHY ENOUGH FOR SURGERY. ONCE CATS ARE DEEMED HEALTHY, THEY ARE PLACED IN ONE OF SEVERAL FREE-ROAMING ADOPTION ROOMS WHERE THE GOAL IS TO FIND THEM THEIR NEW FOREVER HOME. SINCE WE ARE A PRIVATE SHELTER, WE DO NOT QUALIFY FOR GOVERNMENT FUNDING AT THE LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL LEVELS. INSTEAD, WE RELY ON OUR ADOPTION FEES, FUNDRAISING AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE GENEROSITY OF OUR CORPORATE AND INDIVIDUAL DONORS, TO HELP US WITH OUR MISSION TO END THE HOMELESSNESS AND ABUSE OF CATS AND KITTENS. ADOPTIONS FOR 2021 WERE 563.
KRISTEN SHEATS WAS HIRED AS OUR FULL-TIME SHELTER MANAGER IN AUGUST 2020. THIS DECISION WAS MADE TO AID WENDY MIRROTTO, FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THE CAT SHELTER, WHILE SHE MANAGED THE FLEA MARKET AND ALL VARIOUS OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE AND FUNDRAISING ASPECTS OF THE BUSINESS. WENDY CONTINUES TO DEFER MOST OR ALL OF HER SALARY TO HELP DECREASE EXPENSES. ONE PART-TIME EMPLOYEE WAS HIRED IN THE SUMMER MONTHS TO HELP WENDY CLEAR THE WAREHOUSE AND MAINTAIN THE MERCHANDISE IN THE FLEA MARKET. WE ALSO CONTINUE TO HAVE ONE PART-TIME EMPLOYEE ANSWERING PHONES AND PERFORMING ADOPTIONS TWO DAYS PER WEEK. ALL OTHER HELP IS ON A VOLUNTEER BASIS.
KITTEN KRAZYS FLEA MARKET FORMERLY KNOWN AS MITTLERS FLEA MARKET OUR FLEA MARKET WAS OPENED AS A WAY TO PAY FOR THE LEASED SPACE PREVIOUSLY UTILIZED BY QUICK FIX SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC WHICH WE CLOSED IN JULY 2019. AS COVID-19 CONTINUES TO BE A FACTOR IN LOW SALES AND THE ECONOMY SO INFLUX, WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ACHIEVE THE SALES THAT WE HAD ANTICIPATED BY HAVING THIS OPEN. OUR HOPE WAS THAT IT WOULD NOT ONLY PAY FOR ITSELF, BUT IT WOULD ALSO BE LUCRATIVE ENOUGH TO FINANCIALLY PROVIDE FOR KITTEN KRAZYS CAT EXPENSES, TOO. OUR NEW LANDLORD (2021) HAS APPROACHED US WITH AN OPTION TO END OUR WAREHOUSE-ONLY LEASE EARLY (DUE TO EXPIRE DECEMBER 2023) AS HE HAS ANOTHER TENANT THAT WOULD LIKE TO TAKE IT OVER. AFTER DISCUSSING THIS OPTION IN OUR PREVIOUS AND CURRENT BOARD MEETINGS, WE WILL BE TAKING THIS OPTION TO EVACUATE THE SPACE IN 2022. THIS WILL DECREASE OUR EXPENSES BY APPROXIMATELY $4,000 PER MONTH.
