MERCYONE NORTHEAST IOWA IS A FAITH-BASED 511-BED, NOT-FOR-PROFIT, COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL/SURGICAL HEALTH CARE PROVIDER OFFERING ACUTE LEVELS OF MEDICAL CARE AT COVENANT MEDICAL CENTER IN WATERLOO, SARTORI MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN CEDAR FALLS, AND MERCY HOSPITAL IN OELWEIN. ITS SERVICES IN THE REGION ALSO INCLUDE COVENANT CLINIC WITH MORE THAN 100 PRIMARY CARE AND SPECIALTY PROVIDERS; COVENANT FOUNDATION, SARTORI HEALTH CARE FOUNDATION AND MERCY HOSPITAL FOUNDATION. COVENANT MEDICAL CENTER IN WATERLOO, IOWA WAS FOUNDED IN 1986 WHEN WHEATON FRANCISCAN SERVICES CONSOLIDATED ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL (FOUNDED IN 1912) AND SCHOITZ MEDICAL CENTER (FOUNDED IN 1904). COVENANT MEDICAL CENTER WAS LOCATED IN TWO LOCATIONS UNTIL 1991 WHEN ALL ACUTE CARE SERVICES WERE COMBINED AT ONE SITE. A NATIVE OF BADEN, GERMANY, SHE CAME TO THE UNITED STATES IN 1857 AND EVENTUALLY SETTLED IN CEDAR FALLS, IOWA. FOR 40 YEARS SHE SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF THE LADIES AID SOCIETY, HER CHURCH'S COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATION. SHE ASSISTED THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND THROUGHOUT CEDAR FALLS, SERVED AS A MEMBER OF THE WOMEN'S RELIEF CORP, AND FOUNDED THE CEDAR FALLS WOMAN'S CLUB. UPON HER DEATH IN 1901, THERESA'S HUSBAND ARRANGED FOR A HOSPITAL TO BE BUILT IN HER NAME. THE HOSPITAL - THE FIRST IN CEDAR FALLS - BECAME KNOWN AS SARTORI MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. IN 1996, SARTORI MEMORIAL BECAME A MEMBER OF WHEATON FRANCISCAN HEALTHCARE-IOWA. TODAY, SARTORI MEMORIAL IS A 100-BED, FULL SERVICE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL PROVIDING INPATIENT AND OUTPATIENT CARE TO THE PEOPLE LIVING IN AND NEAR CEDAR FALLS. SERVICES INCLUDE 24-HOUR EMERGENCY ROOM AND AMBULANCE TRANSPORTATION, INTENSIVE CARE, GENERAL MEDICAL CARE, SURGERY, AND AMBULATORY CARE. SUPPORT SERVICES INCLUDE X-RAY, MAMMOGRAPHY, AND BREAST MRI, ULTRASOUND, LABORATORY, RESPIRATORY THERAPY, PHYSICAL THERAPY, SPIRITUAL CARE, SOCIAL SERVICES, AND NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION. THE SARTORI AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT SERVES AS THE EMERGENCY 911 RESPONDER FOR THE CITY OF CEDAR FALLS. BEYOND PROVIDING EXCEPTIONAL AND COMPASSIONATE HEALTH CARE SERVICE ON A DAILY BASIS, SARTORI MEMORIAL HOSPITAL EXTENDS ITS HEALING MISSION INTO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH NUMEROUS PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES FOR ALL, INCLUDING A 15-BED INPATIENT SENIOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH UNIT FOR THE ELDERLY AND A SURGICAL AND NON-SURGICAL WEIGHT LOSS MANAGEMENT CLINIC INCLUDING BARIATRIC SURGERY TO ADDRESS OBESITY.
