CELEBRATE THE PRINTED WORD - THE QUARTERLY PAYMENTS MADE TO THE DAVENPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY CONTRIBUTE TO NEW MATERIALS WHICH ARE PURCHASED FOR THE LIBRARY. EACH ITEM IS INSCRIBED WITH A SPECIAL BOOKPLATE WHICH DENOTES THAT IT WAS PURCHASED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY. THE DONATION CONTRIBUTED TO 404,965 ITEMS THAT WERE CHECKED OUT BY OUR CUSTOMERS LAST YEAR.
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS - THE PAYMENTS TO THE DAVENPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR THE RICHARDSON-SLOANE SPECIAL COLLECTIONS CENTER PAY FOR HALF OF THE FULL TIME PRINCIPAL CLERK'S POSITION. WITHOUT THIS PAYMENT, THE POSITION WOULD BE ONLY HALF-TIME. THE PERSON IN THIS POSITION WORKS WITH THE PUBLIC TO ASSIST WITH FINDING GENEOLOGY AND LOCAL HISTORY INFORMATION PLUS ASSISTING WITH DIGITALIZING IMAGES FOR OUR SPECIAL COLLECTIONS WEBSITE.
SUMMER READING PROGRAM - THE PAYMENT TO THE DAVENPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM ALLOWS THE LIBRARY TO OFFER 201 DIFFERENT PROGRAMS WITH 1,298 ATTENDEES OF THE PROGRAMS. THOSE WHO REGISTERED FOR THE READING PROGRAM WERE 1,372. THIS WAS FOR CHILDREN, TEEN AND ADULTS DURING JUNE AND JULY. THE FOCUS OF THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM IS TO PROMOTE READING AMONG ALL AGES, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE SCHOOL AGE SO THAT THEY PRACTICE THE READING SKILLS THEY HAVE LEARNED.
ADDITIONAL PROVIDED RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE LITERARY AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES OF THE DAVENPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY.
