SHALOM PROVIDES RESIDENTIAL, FAMILY HOMES TO ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AND THEIR LOVING CARE-PROVIDER FAMILIES. THROUGH THE LOVE AND WHOLENESS OF JESUS CHRIST, WE PROVIDE TRAVEL, WORSHIP, CAMPS, RECREATION, SOCIAL AND WORK OPPORTUNITIES THAT ENRICH THE LIVES OF MORE THAN 40 RESIDENTS AND DOZENS FROM THE COMMUNITY.

SHALOM PROVIDED RESIDENTIAL EXTENDED-FAMILY HOMES FOR OVER 40 RESIDENTS AND THEIR CARE-PROVIDER FAMILIES INCLUDING STATE-LICENSED ADULT FOSTER CARE AND INDEPENDENT SUPPORTED LIVING FOR MEN AND WOMEN. THESE CHRIST- CENTERED HOMES PROVIDE ENCOURAGEMENT, LOVE AND STRUCTURE. RESIDENTS BECOME PART OF THE SHALOM COMMUNITY WHICH ALLOWS THEM TO PARTICIPATE IN MANY SOCIAL AND SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES.
SHALOM PROVIDED SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES IN 2021 FOR OUR PARTICIPANTS, STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS TO EXPERIENCE COMMUNITY THROUGH ACTIVITY. OUR SECOND ANNUAL SHALOM OLYMPICS ALLOWED PARTICIPANTS TO PLAY WITH, COMPETE AGAINST AND CHEER FOR EACH OTHER WHILE LEARNING NEW SKILLS AND DISPLAYING SPORTSMANSHIP TOWARD OTHERS. MANY ALSO ATTENDED THE KALAMAZOO GROWLERS SEMI-PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL GAME AND ENJOYED THE BUFFET WHILE WAITING FOR THE RAIN DELAY TO END. COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS WERE STRENGTHENED THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN THE KINDELBERGER CRAFT SHOW,OUR ANNUAL TRIP TO SHIPSHEWANA AND OUR OPEN HOUSE TO CELEBRATE THE COMPLETION OF OUR NEW WOOLERY BUILDING.
WITH COVID PROTOCOLS IN PLACE, MANY PARTICIPANTS WORKED IN OUR FARM, THRIFT STORE AND EXPANDED WOOLERY OPERATIONS. COMPLETION OF OUR NEW BUILDING ALLOWED WOOLERY PARTICIPANTS TO WORK IN TEAMS SKIRTING AND WASHING WOOL, OPERATE MACHINES, WEAVE ON LOOMS AND MAKE DRYER BALLS, CAT TOYS, BANNERS AND OTHER PRODUCTS IN A SUPPORTIVE AND SAFE ATMOSPHERE. FARM PARTICIPANTS WORK WITH SHEEP, GOATS, RABBITS, CHICKENS AND ALPACA WHILE EXPERIENCING GARDENING AND OTHER YEAR-ROUND PROJECTS(GATHERING EGGS AND CARING FOR RABBITS). THE NEW 6000 SQUARE FOOT WOOLERY BUILDING WAS OPENED IN JULY AND THE ANNUAL FARM DAYS ALSO SERVED AS AN OPEN HOUSE TO ALLOW MANY SUPPORTERS, FRIENDS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO SEE WHAT GOD HAS BEEN DOING THROUGH SHALOM TO IMPROVE OUR SERVICE AND SUPPORT TO ADULTS LIVING WITH DISABILITIES WHILE THEY LIVE AND WORK TOGETHER AT OUR FACILITIES. AT OUR THRIFT STORE AND AT ART SHOWS PARTICIPANTS ASSIST IN THE CLEANING, PROCESSING AND SALE OF DONATED ITEMS. THESE ACTIVITIES ARE MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH OUR NINE FULL AND PART-TIME STAFF/COACHES AND MORE THAN 50 REGULAR VOLUNTEERS. SEVERAL OF OUR PARTICIPANTS CONTINUE TO DEVELOPE THEIR SKILLS OF WOODWORKING, PAINTING AND FURNITURE MAKING.
