TART TRAILS, INC., EST. 1998, BUILDS, MANAGES, & SUPPORTS A NETWORK OF NEARLY 100 MILES OF NON-MOTORIZED TRAILS IN GRAND TRAVERSE AND LEELANAU COUNTIES. WE CONTINUE TO WORK TO CONNECT REGIONAL TRAIL NETWORKS BY BUILDING TRAILS, PRESERVING OPEN SPACE CORRIDORS, AND ADVOCATING FOR HEALTHY LIVING AND OUTDOOR RECREATION. OUR LONG-TERM VISION IS THAT NORTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN WILL BE CONNECTED BY WORLD-CLASS TRAILS, BIKEWAYS, AND PEDESTRIAN-FRIENDLY STREETS LINKING PEOPLE TO THE BEAUTY OF THE AREA YEAR-ROUND. THE AREA WILL BE KNOWN FOR ITS NATURAL SURROUNDINGS, ACTIVE, HEALTHY OUTDOOR LIFESTYLES, AND VIBRANT TOWN CENTERS WHERE EVERYONE HAS SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS. WE WILL BE A WORLD-RENOWNED OUTDOOR RECREATION AND FOUR-SEASON DESTINATION. OUR BOARD, STAFF AND HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS WORK EVERYDAY TOWARD ACHIEVING THIS VISION. IN 2022, THE TRAILS HOSTED 350,000+ VISITS. WE CONSTRUCTED 4 MILES OF TRAIL WITH ANOTHER 24 MILES UNDER DESIGN. VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED 8,000+ HRS TO HELP MAINTAIN THE TRAILS & SUPPORT PROGRAMMING. MAJOR PROJECTS INCLUDED COMPLETING CONSTRUCTION OF THE BOARDMAN LAKE LOOP IN TRAVERSE CITY, CONNECTING COMMUNITIES IN ACME TOWNSHIP WITH A NEW CONNECTOR TRAIL AND WORKING WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE & PARTNERS ON THE SLEEPING BEAR HERITAGE TRAIL IN LEELANAU COUNTY.
