Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
COFFEE HOUSE PRESS CREATES NEW SPACES FOR AUDIENCES AND ARTISTS TO INTERACT, INSPIRING READERS AND ENRICHING COMMUNITIES BY EXPANDING THE DEFINITION OF WHAT LITERATURE IS, WHAT IT CAN DO, AND WHO IT BELONGS TO.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
COFFEE HOUSE PRESS HAS ONE PROGRAM SERVICE: THE PUBLICATION OF BOOKS THAT FULFILL OUR MISSION. IN FISCAL YEAR 2021, THE PROGRAM PUBLISHED 13 BOOKS, 3 NOVELS, 1 MEMOIR, 2 ESSAYS, 1 SHORT STORY COLLECTION, AND 5 POETRY COLLECTIONS. ADDITIONALLY, WE REPRINTED AND MAINTAINED A BACKLIST OF OVER 375 WORKS. THE AUTHORS OF THESE BOOKS INCLUDE AFRICAN AMERICANS, ASIAN AMERICANS, NATIVE AMERICANS, LATIN AMERICANS, AND EUROPEAN AMERICANS. MANY WRITERS ON THE BACKLIST WERE LIVING IN MINNESOTA AT THE TIME OF THE PUBLICATION OR LIVING OUTSIDE THE BORDERS OF THE UNITED STATES. THEIR PERSPECTIVES TRAVERSE THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE AND ILLUSTRATE DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES WHILE PRESENTING LITERATURE TO THE WORLD. SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS THIS PAST YEAR INCLUDE THE PUBLICATION OF THE PAPERBACK EDITION OF NAJA MARIE AIDT'S "WHEN DEATH TAKES SOMETHING FROM YOU GIVE IT BACK", WHICH WAS A FINALIST FOR THE KIRKUS PRIZE IN NONFICTION AND LONGLISTED FOR THE NATIONAL BOOK AWARD IN TRANSLATED LITERATURE. WE ALSO PUBLISHED A NEW COLLECTION OF POETRY BY NATIONAL BOOK AWARD WINNER DANIEL BORZUTZKY AND REISSUED "ECHO TREE" BY HENRY DUMAS, WHICH EARNED THREE STARRED REVIEWS FROM MAJOR MEDIA OUTLETS.
