THE GRANT PROGRAM IS THE ORGANIZATION'S FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO COMMUNITIES BUILDING FREE, PUBLIC SKATE PARKS. TWICE ANNUALLY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETS TO REVIEW GRANT APPLICATIONS AND SELECT RECIPIENTS BASED ON SEVERAL CRITERIA, INCLUDING MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME, CURRENT ACCESS TO SKATE PARKS, SCOPE OF PROPOSED PROJECT, DEMONSTRATED WORK COMPLETED TO FUND RAISE AND CREATE COMMUNITY AWARENESS, AND OTHER LOCAL DATA DEMONSTRATING COMMUNITY IS UNDERSERVED. REVENUE FOR THE GRANT PROGRAM IS GENERATED THROUGH SPONSORSHIP, DONATIONS, GRANTS, AND AUCTIONS.
THE ORGANIZATION'S TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IS THE EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT OF ITS WORK. ORGANIZATION STAFF ALSO RESEARCH WHICH COMMUNITIES ARE CONSIDERING OR HAVE STARTED A SKATE PARK PROJECT, AND PROACTIVELY CONTACT THEM TO LEARN IF THE SKATEPARK PROJECT CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE.
BUILT TO PLAY PROGRAM: WITH MATCHING-GRANT FUNDS OF UP TO $250,000 AND A SUPPLEMENTAL GRANT OF UP TO $50,000 TO ENCOURAGE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION, THE BUILT TO PLAY SKATEPARK PROGRAM SUPPORTS COMMUNITY GROUPS AND MUNICIPAL ENTITIES SEEKING TO CREATE FREE, PUBLIC SKATEPARKS FOR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES IN SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN AND WESTERN NEW YORK. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES ADVISORY SERVICES AND ADVOCACY TRAINING TO ASSIST GROUPS IN ORGANIZING AND MANAGING THEIR EFFORTS.
YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAM: THE YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAM CONDUCTS RESEARCH ABOUT THE NEEDS OF YOUTH AND ASSISTS LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE SKATEBOARDING PROGRAMMING TO CHILDREN. CURRENTLY, A RESEARCH PROJECT IS BEING CONDUCTED BY THE FOUNDATION AND USC, AND A YOUTH AFFILIATE PILOT PROJECT CURRENTLY PROVIDES SUPPORT AND FUNDING TO FIVE ORGANIZATIONS THAT WORK WITH YOUTH IN CITIES ACROSS THE US.THE AMOUNT FOR OTHER PROGRAMS REPRESENT PAST GRANT AWARDS THAT HAVE BEEN RETURNED DUE TO THE PROJECT THEY WERE FUNDING CEASED OPERATION.
