SUNFLOWER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: THE SUNFLOWER SCHOLARSHIP FUND WAS ESTABLISHED TO REFLECT THE ATTRIBUTES WHICH CHELSEA KING EMBODIED AS A YOUNG CITIZEN AND STUDENT AT POWAY HIGH SCHOOL. SHE WAS EXTREMELY DILIGENT, INVOLVED IN A VARIETY OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, AND HAD A PASSION FOR VOLUNTEERING IN HER COMMUNITY, BELIEVED IN THE POWER OF CHANGE, AND DREAMED OF MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. THE ANNUAL FINISH CHELSEA'S RUN IS THE PRIMARY FUNDRAISER FOR CHELSEA'S LIGHT FOUNDATION'S SUNFLOWER SCHOLARSHIP FUND, PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SAN DIEGO COUNTY COLLEGE-BOUND TEENS WHO HAVE EMBRACED CHELSEA'S SERVICE-OVER-SELF ETHIC.
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH REGARDING CRITICAL ISSUES IMPACTING CHILDREN AT LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL LEVELS SO THAT CHILDREN CAN ENJOY THEIR RIGHT TO A SAFE AND HAPPY CHILDHOOD.
PROTECT THE JOY: LEVERAGING THE SUCCESSFUL PLAYBOOK FOR CHELSEA'S LAW, THE DECISION WAS MADE TO FIGHT FOR THE SAFETY AND INNOCENCE OF OUR KIDS COAST-TO-COAST THROUGH PROTECT THE JOY. THE PROGRAM WORKS TO RESEARCH LEGISLATION, ENERGIZE COMMUNITIES, TALK TO POLICY MAKERS AND DRAFT POLICY IN ORDER TO GET OUR VOICES HEARD WITH THE DECISION MAKERS AND MOVE DRAFTED POLICY THROUGH THE VARIOUS CHANNELS.
