THE FAMILY ABUSE SHELTER OF MIAMI COUNTY INC., ASSISTS VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND HOMELESSNESS WITH EMERGENCY SHELTER AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES THAT PROMOTE SELF RELIANCE, DIGNITY AND SAFETY.

EMERGENCY SHELTER OPERATIONS: EMERGENCY SHELTER ASSISTANCE IS MADE AVAILABLE FOR ANYONE IN NEED OF HELP DUE TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR HOMELESSNESS. DURING 2020, FAMILY ABUSE SHELTER OF MIAMI COUNTY, INC. SHELTERED 371 UNDUPLICATED PEOPLE CONSISTING OF MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN, PROVIDING THEM WITH A TOTAL OF 8,648 BED NIGHTS. ALL PERSONS SHELTERED WERE ALSO PROVIDED WITH CASE MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO HELP THEM OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT, SECURE PERMANENT HOUSING, AND TO INCREASE THEIR OVERALL SAFETY AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY.
LEGAL ADVOCACY AND OUTREACH SERVICES: THROUGHOUT 2020, FAMILY ABUSE SHELTER OF MIAMI COUNTY, INC. PROVIDED LEGAL ADVOCACY FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. LEGAL ADVOCATES TRAINED IN RESPONDING TO TRAUMA AND VICTIM RIGHTS OFFERED SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS AS THEY MOVED THROUGH THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. SAFETY PLANNING, CRISIS INTERVENTION, COURT ACCOMPANIMENT AND ASSISTANCE WITH OBTAINING PROTECTION ORDERS WERE PROVIDED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM. DURING 2020, 377 VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RECEIVED LEGAL ADVOCACY SERVICES. OUTREACH AND PUBLIC EDUCATION ACTIVITIES WERE ALSO CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO EDUCATE THE GENERAL COMMUNITY ABOUT THE SERVICES AVAILABLE FOR THROUGH THE FAMILY ABUSE SHELTER OF MIAMI COUNTY, INC. TO HELP CONNECT ANYONE IN NEED TO RESOURCES.
HOMELESS REHOUSING, PREVENTION AND SERVICES: DURING 2020, THE FAMILY ABUSE SHELTER OF MIAMI COUNTY, INC. ASSISTED 95 HOUSEHOLDS CONSISTING OF 174 PEOPLE FROM MIAMI COUNTY, OHIO WITH EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TOWARDS OBTAINING AND MAINTAINING PERMANENT HOUSING, I.E., HOUSING DEPOSITS, RENT AND UTILITY BILLS. EMERGENCY AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE AND CASE MANAGEMENT WAS ALSO PROVIDED FOR HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN FIVE SURROUNDING COUNTIES: SHELBY, DARKE, PREBLE, CHAMPAIGN, AND LOGAN, ASSISTING AN ADDITIONAL 84 HOUSEHOLDS OR 137 PEOPLE IN SECURING HOUSING. PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING WAS PROVIDED FOR 16 HOMELESS HOUSEHOLDS OR 23 PEOPLE WHO HAD DISABLING CONDITIONS. ALL SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE FAMILY ABUSE SHELTER OF MIAMI COUNTY, INC. ARE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE AND ARE DESIGNED TO PROMOTE LONG-TERM STABILITY AND TO INCREASE SELF-SUFFICIENCY FOR THE INDIVIDUALS SERVED.
