ARTISTIC NOISE BRINGS THE FREEDOM AND POWER OF ARTISTIC PRACTICE TO A COMMUNITY OF SYSTEM-INVOLVED YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE ON PROBATION, IN FOSTER CARE, UNHOUSED, OR OTHERWISE IMPACTED BY THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. OUR WORKSHOPS ALLOW YOUNG PEOPLE TO EXPLORE THEIR IDENTITIES, EXPERIENCES, AND COMPLEX SOCIO-POLITICAL ISSUES IN A SAFE AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT.
THE ART & ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM TAKES PLACE IN OUR HARLEM STOREFRONT STUDIO AND CREATES PAID OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH TO DEVELOP AND EXPLORE THEIR CREATIVE ABILITIES. LED BY A TEACHING ARTIST, A&E PARTICIPANTS LEARN ARTISTIC TECHNIQUES IN DIFFERENT MEDIA, STUDY A VARIETY OF CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS WORKING ACROSS SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES, AND PRODUCE AN INDEPENDENT BODY OF WORK THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IN ADDITION TO THEIR ART CURRICULUM, THE A&E PROGRAM CENTERS WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BY PROVIDING FUNDAMENTAL JOB SKILLS AND A WEEKLY SUPPORT STIPEND AS WELL.
ARTISTIC NOISE OFFERS ART THERAPY IN RESIDENTIAL AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS TO YOUTH INVOLVED IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM WHO ARE IN NEED OF CLINICAL SERVICES. AT THE CORE OF ARTISTIC NOISE'S PROGRAMMING IS THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTIVATING AN AUTHENTIC AND GROUNDED IDENTITY UPON WHICH THE YOUTH CAN BECOME BENEFITING AND BENEFICIAL MEMBERS OF THE GREATER COMMUNITY. CLINICAL RATIONALE, WHICH CONSIDERS GOALS, STRENGTHS AND CHALLENGES, GUIDES HOW INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SESSIONS ARE CONDUCTED.
