AT THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF THE NORTH COUNTRY, WE PROVIDE A FUN, SAFE PLACE FOR KIDS TO GATHER AND EXPRESS THEMSELVES DURING AFTER SCHOOL TIME AND VACATION PERIODS OFTEN KEEPING THEM FROM PARTICIPATING IN HIGH-RISK BEHAVIORS. PART OF THE CLUB'S PURPOSE IS TO ASSIST IN TEACHING THEM RIGHT FROM WRONG, HOW TO HANDLE LIFE'S EMOTIONAL DECISIONS, KNOWING THE CONSEQUENCES THAT MAY COME ABOUT AS A RESULT OF THE THEIR DECISIONS AND HOW TO HANDLE THE PEER PRESSURE THAT COMES WITH GROWING UP. OUR PROGRAM FOCUSES ON DEVELOPING THE LIFE-LONG SKILLS THAT CHILDREN NEED TO PREPARE THEMSELVES FOR SUCCESSFUL FUTURES AS PRODUCTIVE ADULTS. WHEN ASKED ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE AT BGNC, MEMBERS WRITE ABOUT TEAMWORK, RESPECT, AND RESPONSIBILITY. THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF THE NORTH COUNTRY PROVIDES AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM, WHICH IS OPEN FROM ABOUT 2:30-6 EVERY DAY. WE ALSO RUN VACATION CAMP PROGRAMS THAT COVER WINTER, SPRING, AND SUMMER VACATIONS WITH HOURS FROM 7:30AM-6PM. IN ADDITION, WE OPEN FOR A FULL DAY ON AS MANY TEACHER IN-SERVICE DAYS AND HOLIDAYS AS POSSIBLE, SINCE WE KNOW THAT WORKING FAMILIES OFTEN NEED HELP IN CARING FOR THEIR CHILDREN ON THOSE DAYS. THE CLUB SERVES ALMOST 250 CHILDREN AGES 5-13 FROM 19 TOWNS. BGCNC RUNS A ROBUST, DIVERSE SET OF PROGRAMS TO ENTERTAIN, TEACH, AND HELP OUR MEMBERS ON THEIR JOURNEY TO BECOMING HAPPY, HEALTHY, PRODUCTIVE ADULTS. THE CLUB HAS ALWAYS BEEN MORE THAN JUST AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM. WE OFFER A RANGE OF SERVICES TAILORED TO MEET SPECIFIC NEEDS, INCLUDING TRANSPORTATION, COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, AND SNACKS FOR ALL MEMBERS. WE ALSO OFFER MORE THAN 100 PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE DEVELOP ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS. THESE INCLUDE STEM LEARNING, ARTS AND MUSIC, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, TUTORING AND HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE, FITNESS AND ATHLETICS, COMMUNITY SERVICE, HEALTHY LIVING, AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.
