STUDENT LITERACY: REF HAS SUPPORT STUDENT LITERACY DEVELOPMENT SINCE ITS FOUNDING. DURING THE PANDEMIC, REF HAS STRIVED TO PROVIDE AS MANY BOOKS TO STUDENTS AS POSSIBLE- OVER 25,000 SINCE MARCH 2020. REF RECEIVES BOOK DONATIONS WHICH ARE THEN DISTRIBUTED TO SCHOOLS, FAMILIES, AND THROUGH COMMUNITY PARTNERS.
MUSIC AND ARTS FOR ALL: REF LAUNCHED THE SPRING FOR MUSIC INITIATIVE IN 2003 IN RESPONSE TO DRASTIC CUTS TO MUSIC FUNDING IN THE ROCHESTER CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT. REF HAS EXPANDED THIS INITIATIVE TO OFFER INSTRUMENTS, PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES, AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SUPPLEMENTAL LESSONS. REF HAS PROVIDED OVER 3,500 INSTRUMENTS TO STUDENTS SINCE 2003.THIS PROGRAM IS PRIMARILY SUPPORTED THROUGH CONTRIBUTIONS.
COLLEGE ACCESS: REF LEADS A COMMUNITY INITIATIVE, ROCHESTER COLLEGE ACCESS NETWORK, WHICH BRINGS TOGETHER HIGHER-ED INSTITUTIONS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, COUNSELORS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO SET COMMUNITY GOALS AROUND COLLEGE-GOING AND ALIGN RESOURCES TO BREAK DOWN THE BARRIERS CITY STUDENTS FACE ON THE ROAD TO POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION. REF ASSISTS STUDENTS THROUGH FAFSA FEST EVENTS, COLLEGE IQ WORKSHOPS, AN ONLINE HELP DESK, AND IN-SCHOOL SUPPORT.THIS PROGRAM IS PRIMARILY SUPPORTED THROUGH CONTRIBUTIONS.
