Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

TO SUSTAIN THE FUTURE OF FOOD AND FEED PRODUCTION THROUGH EDUCATION AND RESEARCH. THE INSTITUTE WAS CREATED TO ADDRESS THE ENORMOUS CHALLENGES OUR FOOD AND FEED PRODUCTION INDUSTRIES WILL FACE IN THE NEXT 40 YEARS AND BEYOND, AS THE WORLD'S POPULATION GROWS BY ALMOST 2.5 BILLION PEOPLE. OVER THIS PERIOD, FOOD PRODUCTION NEEDS WILL DOUBLE. THE INSTITUTE COLLECTIVELY REPRESENTS THE FOOD AND FEED PRODUCTION INDUSTRIES, WITH THE VISION OF HELPING TO SHAPE OUR FUTURE TO FEED THE WORLD. IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS AGGRESSIVE GOAL, OUR INDUSTRY MUST BE SUSTAINABLE. THE INSTITUTE IS COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING CRITICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES TO MAKE OUR FOOD AND FEED PRODUCTION INDUSTRIES SUSTAINABLE WELL INTO THE FUTURE.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

RESEARCH: THE INSTITUTE BELIEVES THAT GOVERNMENT REGULATORY AND LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS MUST BE SCIENCE-BASED, AND THAT THE INSTITUTE MUST MAINTAIN A LIQUID ASSET FUND TO CHALLENGE QUESTIONABLE OR "DIRECTED" SCIENCE THAT SEEKS TO BE A MEANS TO AN END IN OVER-REGULATING THE FEED INDUSTRY OR LACKING JUSTIFICATION BASED ON REAL SCIENCE AND ITS MEANINGS. SECOND, THE INSTITUTE BELIEVES THAT UNDERSTANDING THE POTENTIAL CONTAMINANTS IN FEED ARE PARAMOUNT TO PRODUCING A SAFE FEED AND FOOD SUPPLY FROM MEAT, MILK, EGGS, AND FISH. ALSO, THE INSTITUTE BELIEVES THAT THE NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL HAS A RICH HISTORY OF ASSISTING THE FEED INDUSTRY SINCE 1928 BY ASSEMBLING WORLD CLASS SCIENTISTS TO REVIEW RESEARCH AND DEVELOP CUTTING EDGE NUTRIENT REQUIREMENTS FOR ANIMAL PRODUCTION CLASSES. ADDITIONALLY, THE INSTITUTE BELIEVES THE IMPACT OF THE FEED INDUSTRY AND ITS CARBON FOOTPRINT ARE PART OF THE LARGER FOOTPRINT OF ANIMAL AGRICULTURE. CONSUMERS, CUSTOMERS, AND OTHERS WISH THIS TO BE DEFINED AND PROJECTS TO ASSIST IN THE OVERVIEW OF THE INDUSTRY'S SUBSTAINABILITY INDEX ARE NECESSARY TO ANSWER CONSUMERS AND CUSTOMERS' QUESTIONS. THEREFORE, THE INSTITUTE FUNDS STUDIES IN SUPPORT OF THESE BELIEFS.

EDUCATION: THE INSTITUTE BELIEVES THE FUTURE OF THE FEED INDUSTRY LIES IN RECRUITING PEOPLE INTERESTED AND CHALLENGED BY INDUSTRY CAREERS. ALSO, THE INSTITUTE BELIEVES THE INDUSTRY SHOULD PROVIDE AND PROMOTE POSITIVE MESSAGES ABOUT THE WORK AND PRODUCTS OF THE INDUSTRY. ADDITIONALLY, THE INSTITUTE BELIEVES THAT EDUCATING THE FEED INDUSTRY CAN BE A POWERFUL TOOL IN EDUCATING COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES ABOUT ANIMAL AGRICULTURE. THEREFORE, THE INSTITUTE FUNDS PROJECTS IN SUPPORT OF THESE BELIEFS.

OTHER PROGRAMS: THE INSTITUTE CONDUCTS OTHER PROGRAM ACTIVITIES THAT INCLUDE VARIOUS MEETINGS AND INTERACTIONS WITH ORGANIZATIONS THAT VALUE THE BELIEFS ESTABLISHED BY THE INSTITUTE'S CORE MISSION STATEMENT.
