THE PURPOSE OF THE ILLINOIS RURAL HERITAGE MUSEUM IS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON EARLY FARMING PRACTICES, HELP VISITORS UNDERSTAND THE RURAL HERITAGE OF ILLINOIS, AND PRESERVE AND RESTORE IMPORTANT PIECES OF EQUIPMENT AND ARTIFACTS THAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE LOST WITH THE PASSAGE OF TIME.

OPERATION AND EDUCATION OF EARLY FARMING PRACTICES AND TO PROMOTE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE RURAL HERITAGE OF ILLINOIS AND TO PRESERVE AND RESTORE IMPORTANT PIECES OF EQUIPMENT AND ARTIFACTS.
THE ORGANIZATION WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN ENOUGH DONATIONS IN ORDER TO START THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW BUILDING FOR THE MUSEUM WHICH WILL OPEN IN 2011. THE RELATED EXPENSES WERE NOT ONLY FOR THE SALARY OF THE PRESIDENT WHICH OVERSAW THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS OF THE ORGANIZATION, BUT FOR THE GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES OF A CURRENT BUILDING THAT WAS IN USE.
