Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN FY 22, 826DC SERVED 1,895 STUDENTS THROUGH ITS LITERACY-FOCUSED PROGRAMS, EACH DESIGNED TO CULTIVATE WRITING SKILLS AND PROVIDE PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR DC STUDENTS. OUR CORE PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE YOUNG AUTHORS' BOOK PROJECT, FIELD TRIPS, IN-SCHOOL PROGRAMS, AFTER-SCHOOL WRITING LAB, WORKSHOPS, AND READING ALL STARS. IN FY 22, AFTER TWO YEARS OF LARGELY VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING DUE TO COVID, THE MAJORITY OF THESE PROGRAMS WERE RUN IN PERSON AT DC SCHOOLS OR AT 826DC'S STATE-OF-THE-ART WRITING LAB. IN ADDITION TO DEVELOPING AND EXECUTING ORIGINAL CURRICULA, 826DC PUBLISHED STUDENT WORK, INCLUDING THE ANTHOLOGIES "IN THE LIGHT AND NOT EXACTLY HEAVEN."
A SMALL COMPONENT OF 826DC'S WORK IS OUR LOWERCASE SERIES, A MONTHLY OPEN MIC NIGHT FOR THE DC LITERARY COMMUNITY. 826DC STAFF USES THIS PUBLIC-FACING EVENT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECRUIT NEW PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS, SHARE OUR STUDENTS' WORKS WITH THE BROADER PUBLIC, AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ABOUT BOOK RELEASES AND PROGRAMMING EVENTS.
