UAHT OUTREACH PROGRAMS TARGET VULNERABLE POPULATIONS INCLUDING MINORITIES, HOMELESS YOUTH AND ADULTS, INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. UAHT OUTREACH PROGRAMS FOCUS ON BRINGING RESOURCES TO INDIVIDUALS IN THE COMMUNITY TO INCREASE THE IDENTIFICATION OF TRAFFICKING VICTIMS. THESE PROGRAMS ALSO FOCUS ON EDUCATING YOUTH IN SCHOOLS, DETENTION CENTERS AND EDUCATING DAY LABORERS ON THE SIGNS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
EDUCATION IS AN ESSENTIAL ASPECT OF HOW UAHT ADDRESSES THE HUMAN TRAFFICKING PROBLEM IN ORDER FOR VICTIMS TO BE RESCUED, MORE COMMUNITY PROFESSIONALS NEED TO HAVE A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THE ISSUE AND HOW TO IDENTIFY A POTENTIAL VICTIM. UAHT EDUCATES THE COMMUNITY THROUGH HUMAN TRAFFICKING 101 PRESENTATIONS, ENGAGING THE COMMMUNITY DURING HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS MONTH AND TRAINING KEY FRONT-LINE PROFESSIONALS SUCH AS LAW ENFORCEMENT, HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS, SOCIAL WORKERS, EDUCATORS, EMS, 911 CALL-TAKERS AND OTHERS WHO ARE IN THE BEST POSITION TO COME INTO CONTACT WITH A VICTIM OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
UAHT IDENTIFIES OVERLOOKED HUMAN TRAFFICKING VICTIMS IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH OUTREACH AND CONNECTS THEM TO CARE. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT FOR ADULT HUMAN TRAFFICKING SURVIVORS OF ALL GENDERS. PARTICIPANTS ARE WALKED THROUGH THE PROCESS OF RECOVERY THROUGH COACHING, ADVOCACY, AND REFERRAL TO PARTNERING AGENCIES. CASE MANAGEMENT HELPS HUMAN TRAFFICKING SURVIVORS GAIN SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT. UAHT ALSO PROVIDES ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES TO SURVIVORS SUCH AS PEER SUPPORT GROUPS, ART/JOURNALING AND YOGA.
REAL TALK IS A TRAUMA-INFORMED SUPPORT GROUP, WHICH ENGAGES TEENS AND ADULTS WHO HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED TRAUMA OR TRAFFICKING AND ARE VULNERABLE TO RECRUITMENT AND (RE)VICTIMIZATION. THE HOUSTON RESCUE AND RESTORE COALITION HARNESSES THE COLLECTIVE DESIRE OF HOUSTON NON-PROFITS, BUSINESSES, LAW ENFORCEMENT HOSPITALS, AND MORE TO WORK TOGETHER STRATEGICALLY AND EFFECTIVELY TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
