HRFISH ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS HELPED OVER 2,300 PEOPLE IN ALL DEMOGRAPHICS BUT IN PREDOMINATELY VERY LOW-INCOME LEVELS IN HERNDON AND RESTON, VIRGINIA. FISH RESPONDED TO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE REQUESTS FOR RENT, UTILITIES, PRESCRIPTIONS, AND OTHER CRITICAL NECESSITIES IN ORDER TO STOP DESTABILIZING EVENTS AND DISTRIBUTED OVER $257,000. TO ADDRESS COMMUNITY NEEDS EFFECTIVELY, FISH ACCEPTS REFERRALS FROM SOCIAL WORKERS IN FAIRFAX COUNTY AGENCIES, LOCAL SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, AND OTHER NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. IN MAY 2021, AS AN EXISTING SAFETY NET PARTNER ORGANIZATION AND HAVING HELPED WITH A PREVIOUS FEDERAL DIRECT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM TO AID RESIDENTS IN FINANCIAL DISTRESS AS A RESULT OF THE COVID PANDEMIC, HRFISH WAS SELECTED AGAIN BY FAIRFAX COUNTY TO BE A CONDUIT FOR DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS FROM PART 2 OF THE CORONAVIRUS AID, RELIEF, AND ECONOMIC SECURITY (CARES) ACT. HRFISH WAS ADVANCED $288,000 AND FULLY DISTRIBUTED THE FUNDS BY DECEMBER 31, 2021. ALSO IN MAY 2021, HRFISH WAS TAPPED BY FAIRFAX COUNTY TO DISTRIBUTE FUNDS FROM THE EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE (ERA1) PROGRAM FUNDED BY THE CONSOLIDATED APPROPRIATIONS ACT, 2021, WHICH PROVIDED UP TO 15-MONTHS OF RENT AND UTILITY PAYMENTS FOR THOSE AT 80% OR LESS OF AREA MEDIAN INCOME AND AFFECTED BY THE CORONAVIRUS. UNDER THIS PROGRAM, HRFISH WAS GIVEN $2.8 MILLION TO PROVIDE DIRECT ASSISTANCE THROUGH NOVEMBER 30, 2021. LIKEWISE, IN MARCH 2022, HRFISH WAS ASKED TO HELP DISTRIBUTE ERA2 FUNDS FROM THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ACT OF 2021. UNDER ERA2, HRFISH WAS ADVANCED A TOTAL OF NEARLY $2.7 MILLION BY THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR TO DISTRIBUTE IN DIRECT ASSISTANCE THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2022. DURING THE 2021-2022 FISCAL YEAR, HRFISH DISTRIBUTED NEARLY $4.7 MILLION OF FEDERAL COVID-RELATED FUNDS TO APPROXIMATELY 1,800 INDIVIDUALS.
THE BARGAIN LOFT THRIFT STORE, A PROGRAM OF HRFISH, PROVIDES AFFORDABLE SHOPPING TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. IT COLLECTS AND MARKETS A WIDE VARIETY OF DONATED ITEMS IN GOOD CONDITION. GENTLY USED FURNITURE, LINENS AND HOUSEHOLD GOODS, WOMEN'S CLOTHING, AND OTHER HIGH NEED ITEMS ARE SOLD. STORE NET PROFITS HELP SUPPORT EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS IN SHORT-TERM CRISES.
