HEALTH SYSTEMS STRENGTHENING A. LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT/GOVERNANCE (SUBSAHARAN AFRICA): GHA PROVIDED DIRECT TRAINING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND COACHING IN LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT, GOVERNANCE, AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT FOR 2 FAITH-BASED HEALTH FACILITIES IN KENYA. GHA PROVIDED HEALTH INFORMATION COMBATTING MYTHS DURING COVID-19 FOR 8 ADDITIONAL HEALTH FACILITIES IN KENYA. B. COMMUNITY AND MATERNAL HEALTH (HAITI): GHA PROVIDED ONGOING TRAINING SUPPORT TO 56 TRADITIONAL BIRTH ATTENDANTS (TBAS) IN THE PETIT-GOAVE DISTRICT OF HAITI TO (1) IMPROVE BASIC HEALTH SERVICES FOR EXPECTANT MOTHERS AND (2) INCREASE REFERRALS OF WOMEN AT RISK OF COMPLICATIONS AND WOMEN EXPERIENCING DIFFICULT DELIVERIES. ALTOGETHER, THESE TBAS ATTENDED 630 LIVE BIRTHS, MADE 253 REFERRALS TO HEALTH CENTERS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN WITH HIGHER-RISK FOR COMPLICATIONS, AND CONDUCTED 1,914 POSTNATAL HOME VISITS IN ORDER TO HELP MOTHERS AND NEWBORNS START HEALTHIER LIVES TOGETHER. C. ACCESS TO ESSENTIAL MEDICINES: IN FEBRUARY 2021, THE HAITI MINISTRE DE LA SANT PUBLIQUE ET DE LA POPULATION (MINISTRY OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND POPULATION OF HAITI) ADDED 7.1% CHLORHEXIDINE DIGLUCONATE (CHX) TO ITS LIST OF ESSENTIAL MEDICINES (LNME). GHA SUCCESSFULLY LED THE ADVOCACY FOR THE INCLUSION OF THIS MEDICINE FOR NEWBORN SEPSIS PREVENTION.


COMMUNITY CAPACITY BUILDING A. ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (SUBSAHARAN AFRICA): GHA PROVIDED TRAINING, COACHING AND CAPACITY BUILDING TO 24 EAST AFRICAN CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS. OVER 1,000 COACHING AND TRAINING HOURS FOCUSED ON ORGANIZATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY, INCLUDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF STRATEGIC PLANS, ANNUAL BUDGETS, GRANT APPLICATIONS, ORGANIZATIONAL BOARD STRUCTURES AND POLICIES. B. NETWORKS (KENYA): GHA STRENGTHENED THE DEVELOPMENT AND CAPACITY OF THE GHA EAST AFRICA NETWORK OF 12 LOCAL CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS/GOVERNMENT DIVISIONS/HEALTH FACILITY ORGANIZATIONS IN KENYA FOR COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMMING TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATE AND EMERGENT LOCAL CHALLENGES. C. COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES (SUBSAHARAN AFRICA): THE GHA NETWORK DEVELOPED INNOVATIVE AND EFFECTIVE RESPONSES TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC LOCALLY. HIGHLIGHTED SUCCESSES THAT WERE DIRECT OUTCOMES OF GHA'S TRAINING, COACHING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE INCLUDED (1) OVER 25,000 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT ITEMS DISTRIBUTED FREE OF CHARGE, (2) OVER 1500 HOUSEHOLDS PROVIDED FOOD FOR 6 MONTHS, (3) ONE HEALTH CENTER EXPANDED THEIR REACH TO 3 ADDITIONAL COUNTIES, AND (4) ANOTHER HEALTH CENTER ADDED A NEW MATERNITY WARD.


GLOBAL ADVOCACY FOR STRONGER HEALTH SYSTEMS UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE: THROUGH ITS PARTICIPATION AND MEMBERSHIP WITHIN THE UHC CIVIL SOCIETY ENGAGEMENT MECHANISM (CSEM), GHA CONTINUED TO ADVOCATE FOR UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE (UHC) IN KENYA AND UGANDA BY SUPPORTING LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS IN DEVELOPING ADVOCACY PLANS. THROUGH THE GHA ALUMNI NETWORK, GHA CONNECTED CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS TO NATIONAL GOVERNMENTAL BODIES IN THE AREAS OF GENDER MAINSTREAMING AND UHC.
