TO PRESENT THE RICH MEDICAL HISTORY OF INDIANA - PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE - BY PRESERVING THE OLD PATHOLOGY BUILDING THE HISTORIC DOCTOR'S OFFICE THE MEDICINAL PLANT GARDEN COLLECTING MEDICAL ARTIFACTS AND PROVIDING EXHIBITS PUBLICATIONS AND PROGRAMS.

THROUGH INTERPRETATION AND PRESERVATION OF THE OLD PATHOLOGY BUILDING IT STANDS INTACT WITH MUCH OF ITS ORIGINAL FURNISHINGS AND EQUIPMENT THE HISTORIC DOCTOR'S OFFICE PRESENTS THE COMPLETE CONTENTS OF A GENERAL FAMILY PRACTITIONER THAT PROVIDES A TANGIBLE EXPERIENCE OF MEDICINE CIRCA 1950. THROUGH IT'S EXHIBITS PUBLICATIONS AND PROGRAMS THE MUSEUM EDUCATES THE GENERAL PUBLIC MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY CONCERNING HEALTH CARE AND LIFE SCIENCES IN INDIANA DURING THE NINETEENTH AND FIRST HALF FO THE TWENTIETH CENTURIES.


THE MEDICINAL PLANT GARDEN DEMONSTRATES OVER 100 SPECIES OF PLANTS USED TO TREAT DISEASES ON FIVE CONTINENTS. THE WELL-LABELED GARDEN EXHIBIT TEACHES VISITORS WHAT PLANTS CAN DO INCLUDING BEING THE SOURCE OF MODERN WONDER DRUGS LIKE ASPIRIN DIGOXIN AND CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENTS.


WE CURRENTLY DON'T KNOW THE FULL EXTENT OF OUR ARCHIVAL COLLECTION PRECISELY BUT WE ESTIMATE THAT THE COLLECTION CONTAINS APPROXIMATELY 5,500 DOCUMENTS THAT ARE A WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE. WHEN THIS ARCHIVAL PROJECT IS COMPLETED THESE MATERIALS WILL BE MUCH MORE USEFUL FOR OUR INTERNAL RESEARCH PUBLICATIONS AND EXHIBITS. AND MOST WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PATRONS AS WELL WHEN WE REOPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND ESTABLISH OUR READING ROOM HOURS.
