OUR MISSION IS TO SUPPORT GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS IN NICARAGUA AS THEY WORK TO OVERCOME A HISTORY OF POVERTY, VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION. IN 2021 PEACEWORKS DELIVERED $95,485 IN CASH GRANTS TO PARTNERS IN NICARAGUA AND OTHER CENTRAL AMERICAN COUNTRIES. DUE TO COVID, NO MATERIAL AID SHIPMENTS WERE MADE IN 2021, UNLIKE FOR PREVIOUS YEARS. THE FOLLOWING SUPPORT WAS PROVIDED TO OUR PARTNERS TO FURTHER THEIR WORK:- $40,000 WAS GIVEN FOR THE INHIJAMBIA'S PROGRAM FOR STREET CHILDREN AT RISK DUE TO DRUG ABUSE, HOMELESSNESS AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN MANAGUA. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES SHELTER, FOOD, COUNSELING AND EDUCATION TO THE CHILDREN. OF THE $40,000, $15,000 WAS USED TO SUPPORT SALARIES AND OPERATIONS, $15,000 WAS USED TO PROVIDE EDUCATION FUNDS FOR THE GIRLS IN THE PROGRAM, AND $10,000 WAS DESIGNATED TO BUILD A HOME FOR FORMER STREET KIDS. - $27,550 WAS GIVEN TO OUR PARTNER FEDICAMP, OF WHICH $13,000 WAS USED TO SUPPORT OPERATIONS AND SALARIES, AND $14,550 WAS USED TO IMPROVE SANITATION AT SEVERAL POOR VILLAGES, BY CONSTRUCTING HIGH QUALITY LATRINES AND NEW WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS. FEDICAMP SUPPORTS SMALL FARMERS AND AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITIES IN NORTHERN NICARAGUA.- $14,400 WAS GIVEN TO AXAYACATL FOR SUPPORT FOR ITS PROGRAMS FOR WOMEN FLEEING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND DEVELOPING SMALL BUSINESS IN RURAL AREAS, INCLUDING $9,000 FOR SALARY AND OPERATION SUPPORT AND $5,400 TO SUPPORT LIVESTOCK PURCHASES AND MICRO-BUSINESS SUPPORT FOR WOMEN IN THE MASAYA, NICARAGUA AREA.- $4,535 WAS GIVEN TO GRUPO CAJOLA TO SUPPORT THEIR EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR POOR COMMUNITIES IN GUATEMALA- $4,000 WAS GIVEN TO THE LA CHISPA DE VIDA PROGRAM OF THE LA TIERRA/MARIPOSA ORGANIZATION IN NICARAGUA, THAT PROVIDES EDUCATION, FOOD AND PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES- $3,000 WAS GIVEN TO THE EL PORVENIR COFFEE COLLECTIVE FOR TRUCK REPAIRS- $2,000 WAS GIVEN TO THE JUAN VERNADO PALO DE ORO TURTLE PROJECT, WHICH FOSTERS THE PROPAGATION AND RESTORATION OF ENDANGERED SEA TURTLES ON THE NICARAGUA PACIFIC COAST.
