PCMS TYPICALLY PRESENTS 50 CONCERTS THAT FEATURE THE ONLY AREA APPEARANCES BY WORLD-RENOWNED ARTISTS. THIS YEAR, DUE TO THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN, WE PRESENTED 39 CONCERTS THROUGH LIVE-STREAMING, PROVIDING MUSICIANS WITH VITAL OPPORTUNITIES AND INCOME, AND AUDIENCES EVERYWHERE WITH GREAT MUSIC WHEN THEY NEEDED IT THE MOST. THESE INCLUDED WORKS FROM ALL PERIODS, AND MUSICIANS OF DIVERSE ETHNICITIES. IN KEEPING WITH OUR MISSION TO OPEN DOORS TO PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE, THE STREAMING WAS PROVIDED AT NO CHARGE, ON A PAY-WHAT-YOU-WISH BASIS. SINCE 1986, PCMS HAS PRESENTED OVER 2,000 CONCERTS, PLAYING A MAJOR ROLE IN INTRODUCING UNDER-REPRESENTED MUSICIANS AND ENRICHING THIS CITY AS A LEADING PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.
MANY OF PCMS' EMINENT ARTISTS ALSO MENTOR AND INSPIRE PHILADELPHIA STUDENTS THROUGH SOME 25 ANNUAL MASTER CLASSES AND CHILDREN'S EVENTS, HELD IN PARTNERSHIPS WITH AREA SCHOOLS AND NONPROFITS, AND OFFERED WITHOUT CHARGE. WE ALSO PROVIDE FREE PRE-CONCERT LECTURES, AND FREE AND DISCOUNTED STUDENT TICKETS. THIS YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, OUR EDUCATIONAL AND OUTREACH EVENTS WERE HELD ONLINE.
